Function Overview
The Toyota Safety Department is responsible for enacting the Toyota Safety Management System at all headquarters, logistics, manufacturing and parts organizations in our region, with the singular goal of achieving zero injuries and illnesses among our team member family. We work to proactively ensure our operations meet, and where possible, exceed, the safety standards where we do business.
Toyota's Safety Department is looking for passionate and highly motivated Safety Co-op's. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide proactive safety support to local operations, as well as North American assignments, as needed. Areas of focus will include establishing robust safety standards and procedures, support of site operations in implementing a robust safety management system prioritizing hazard identification, and monitoring progress toward KPI targets. Additional responsibilities will include support of construction projects and monitoring the safety impact of new technologies.
Examples include:
  • Interpretation and implementation of federal, state, and local safety regulations
  • Conduct training and auditing to enhance management system performance
  • Commission new equipment upon installation to ensure Toyota specifications are met
  • Review job safety plans and consult on-site construction contractors
  • Participate in safety culture improvement initiatives across Toyota
  • Conduct root cause investigations of occupational injuries and other concerns

Requirements
  • Pursuit of bachelor's degree in one of the following: Occupational Safety & Health, Fire Science, Industrial Engineering, Public Health, or equivalent degree
  • Seeking sophomores and above that would be available to work during the Summer 2026, Fall 2026 or Spring 202 Term with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher
  • Have lawful, unlimited authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, both now and in the future
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Strong decision-making, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated
  • Experience working independently, can also be an effective team member
  • Pro-active learner and open to constructive feedback
  • Capable of developing and delivering presentations, generating effective reports, conducting applicable standards research
