JOB TITLE: HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

POSITION TYPE: FULL TIME / 210 DAYS / CERTIFIED

REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL

EVALUATED BY: BUILDING PRINCIPAL

ONE (1) YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD. EMPLOYEE EVALUATED ANNUALLY


The purpose of the High School Assistant Principal is to assist the Principal with the day-to-day operations, both instructional and managerial, of the school.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication

  • Be a confidant(e) to the Franklin County High School Principal
  • Effectively communicate with all faculty, staff, other administrators, students and parents at Franklin County High School Faculty Council
  • Be an active participant in the Franklin County High School Faculty Council
  • Coordinate the publication of a quarterly newsletter for parents
  • Effectively communicate with community members about Franklin County High School

Supervision of Teachers

  • Assist the principal in observing, evaluating, and conferring with teachers about classroom and other professional responsibilities
  • Make recommendations to the principal regarding teachersโ€™ professional responsibilities

Supervision of Students

  • Assist in the supervision of students throughout the school day including before school, during passing periods, at lunch time, and after school
  • Assist in the supervision of students at extra-curricular activities as assigned by the principal

Curriculum

  • Assist in the implementation of the adopted curriculum at Franklin County High School
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the technology preparation curriculum at Franklin County High School

Discipline

  • Oversee the successful implementation of the Franklin County High School behavior policy as stated in the student/parent handbook
  • Confer with students, teachers, and parents as necessary
  • Assign appropriate consequences to students for misconduct
  • Monitor, evaluate, and recommend improvements for the detention system that includes lunch detentions, after school detentions, Friday school assignments, and in-school suspensions

Attendance

  • Oversee the implementation of the Franklin County High School attendance policy
  • Confer with students, teachers, guidance counselors, parents, Franklin County Probation Officer, and other administrators in regards to students who are excessively absent from school

Scheduling of Various Activities

  • Coordinate the scheduling of non-athletic extra-curricular activities by maintain a school calendar
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of the scheduling of activity period activities
  • Coordinate the reservation process and other facets for the use of Franklin County High School facilities

Developing/Implementing Plans

  • Develop and implement an effective plan for restroom supervision for teachers
  • Develop and implement successful plans for emergency procedure drills
  • Develop and implement successful plans for scheduling student lunch periods

Other Responsibilities

  • Oversee the textbook rental process including securing of textbooks, determining textbook rental charges, and completing textbook reimbursement forms
  • Coordinate standardized testing
  • Actively participate in special education case conferences as assigned by the principal
  • Actively pursue professional development activities
  • Actively participate in programs such as the eighth grade orientation program and the freshman orientation program
  • Stand in the place of the principal in the principalโ€™s absence
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Building Principal

  • Shall hold a valid Indiana Secondary Administrative and Supervision License
