Purchasing Agent / Analyst

Location: Outside of Albany, NY
Salary Range: $62,000 - $67,000 + bonus potential
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

Our dynamic client is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Agent / Analyst to support purchasing strategy, inventory planning, and supply chain operations. This role combines data analysis with hands-on purchasing responsibilities to ensure optimal inventory levels, accurate forecasting, and efficient vendor coordination.

The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and comfortable using data to drive purchasing decisions while collaborating across departments to improve overall supply chain performance.


Key Responsibilities

Purchasing & Order Planning

  • Review demand forecasts, sales trends, and purchase requisitions to generate purchase orders
  • Evaluate order requests to ensure alignment with inventory needs and business goals
  • Monitor order progress and ensure timely delivery, addressing delays or discrepancies


Inventory Analysis & Optimization

  • Analyze inventory levels, overstock risks, and storage considerations
  • Develop recommendations to improve inventory efficiency and reduce stockouts
  • Adjust forecasts and purchasing strategies based on trends and business needs


Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Build and analyze reports using Excel and ERP systems to support decision-making
  • Maintain accurate product, pricing, and cost data
  • Provide insights on purchasing trends, cost analysis, and inventory performance


Vendor & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, carriers, and internal stakeholders
  • Coordinate with sales and demand planning teams to align inventory with demand
  • Manage claims, discrepancies, and exceptions related to orders and shipments


Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Identify opportunities to enhance purchasing processes and operational efficiency
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with company policies
  • Support a safe, organized, and efficient work environment

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or inventory analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP preferred
  • Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking abilities
