Job description

Hamanaka Painting Co., Inc. is seeking State-qualified Journeyman Painters for temporary project-based assignments to support compliance with California Skilled and Trained Workforce (STW) requirements under Public Contract Code 2600-2603.


This is not a full-time or part-time position.This is a temporary, project-specific employment opportunity for certified journeymen available for assignment when STW-qualified labor is required.We are building a pool of experienced, professional painters who meet the State of California journeyman standards and can be dispatched as needed for qualifying public works projects.


Position Overview:

Selected candidates will perform journeyman-level painting work on projects subject to Skilled and Trained Workforce requirements. Assignments are temporary and project-based. Duration, schedule, and hours will vary depending on project needs.There is no guarantee of ongoing or continuous work.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must meet one of the following California DIR journeyman standards:
  • Completion of a California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS)-approved apprenticeship in Painting & Decorating; or
  • Minimum four (4) years of verifiable journeyman-level experience consistent with California DIR definitions.
  • Documentation may be required to verify eligibility for STW reporting.
  • Preferred Certifications
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • Aerial Lift / Scissor Lift training
  • Fall Protection training
  • Current respirator medical clearance and fit test


Core Responsibilities:

  • Perform all surface preparation and coating applications at the journeyman level
  • Apply coatings by brush, roller, and spray (including epoxies, sealers, elastomerics, stains, varnishes, and specialty finishes)
  • Interpret plans, specifications, and finish schedules
  • Work safely at heights using ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts
  • Maintain compliance with Cal/OSHA, PPE, and respirator requirements
  • Uphold professional standards on public works job sites
  • Work Conditions
  • Outdoor and indoor work in varying weather conditions
  • Work at heights and in physically demanding environments
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs
  • Overtime, weekends, or evening shifts may be required depending on the project schedule
  • Occasional out-of-town travel may be required with advance notice


Employment Classification:

This position is temporary and project-based.Workers hired under this posting will be employed on an as-needed basis for specific projects requiring compliance with the Skilled and Trained Workforce.Nothing in this posting or subsequent employment creates a guarantee of continued employment, minimum hours, or future assignments. Employment is at-will and in accordance with California law.


Compensation:
