JOB TITLE:                    Steward

DEPARTMENT:             Culinary

REPORTS TO:               Stewarding Supervisor/Manager

LOCATION:                     Hotel EMC2

POSITION SUMMARY:   

The Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in all areas of the kitchen, including dishes, utensils, equipment, and workspaces. This role plays a vital part in supporting the culinary and food & beverage operations by ensuring a clean and organized back-of-house environment that meets hotel and health department standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, including the dish washing machine, hand wash stations pot-scrubbing station, and trash compactor.
  • Wash and disinfect kitchen and storeroom areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis.
  • Receive deliveries, store perishables properly, and rotate stock.
  • Use detergent, rinsing, and sanitizing chemicals in the 3-compartment sink to clean dishes.
  • Inspect, pull, and stack cleaned items, send soiled items back for re-scrubbing and re-washing.
  • Empty and maintain trashcans and dumpster area.
  • Clean and mop all areas in assigned departments.
  • Break down cardboard boxes and place them and other recyclables in the recycle bin.
  • Actively participate in Safety Plan and energy improvements.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to staff.
  • Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the English language.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs. to include serving trays, carts, tables, chairs, and small equipment up to 75% of the time.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time without sitting or leaning.
  • Able to work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Knowledge of basic sanitary guidelines.
  • Must be able to hear with 100% accuracy with correction.
  • Must be able to see 20/20 vision with correction.
  • Able to work: Holidays, weekends and any day/shift
  • Maintain knowledge of hotel property, hotel staff, hotel services, hotel service hours of operation and hotel surroundings (i.e. mall, restaurants).
  • Adhere to all work rules, procedures and policies established by the company.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Requires extended periods of standing and walking.
  • May involve occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs.
