What is a temporary GRC?

A Temporary GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) role involves short-term assignments focused on helping organizations manage regulatory compliance, assess risks, and implement governance policies. Temporary GRC professionals may be brought in to assist during audits, regulatory changes, or special projects that require additional expertise. They help ensure that the company is following legal and ethical standards while minimizing risks to the organization. These roles are often filled by consultants or contract professionals with specialized knowledge in compliance frameworks and risk management.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a temporary GRC professional?

To thrive as a Temporary GRC professional, you need a solid understanding of risk management, regulatory frameworks, and compliance requirements, often supported by a relevant degree or certifications like CISA or CRISC. Familiarity with GRC platforms such as RSA Archer, LogicManager, or MetricStream is typically necessary. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for this position. These competencies ensure that organizations can proactively identify risks, maintain compliance, and protect assets in a dynamic regulatory environment.

What are the main challenges faced by temporary GRC professionals?

Professionals in a Temporary GRC position often face the challenge of quickly adapting to new organizational cultures and processes while ensuring compliance standards are met. Since the role is temporary, there is often a limited timeframe to assess risks, implement controls, and support audits or regulatory requirements. Effective communication and collaboration with various departments are essential, as GRC often involves coordinating with IT, legal, and operations teams. Additionally, staying up-to-date on evolving regulations and industry best practices is crucial for delivering value within a short period.

How to get a temporary GRC job with no experience?

To secure a temporary GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) position with no experience, focus on gaining foundational knowledge through online courses or certifications such as CISA or CRISC. Highlight transferable skills like attention to detail and understanding of regulations, and consider entry-level roles or internships to build relevant experience.

Is temporary GRC still in demand?

Temporary GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) roles remain in demand as organizations seek flexible staffing to manage regulatory requirements, cybersecurity risks, and compliance initiatives. These positions often require knowledge of frameworks like ISO, NIST, or GDPR, and may involve working with compliance tools and audits. The demand is driven by increasing regulatory complexity and cybersecurity concerns across industries.

Job description

As a GRC Engineer here at Chubb, you will apply engineering, automation, and data analytics principles to strengthen governance, risk, and compliance across our cybersecurity environment. You will serve as a hands-on platform specialist for ServiceNow IRM, helping optimize and enhance the GRC ecosystem so it continues to meet Chubb’s evolving cybersecurity analytics, compliance, and risk management needs. In this role, you will connect data, controls, and risk signals to drive deeper risk analysis, proactively identify potential issues before risk is realized, and support executive reporting on application security exposure and broader cybersecurity risk. You will also play a key role in managing the platform, including how data is reviewed, how workflows are executed, and how AI capabilities are leveraged within the platform to improve automation, insight generation, and operational efficiency.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and implement automated control testing workflows in partnership with the Cyber Risk & Assurance Manager, including detailed automation playbooks for compliance and control testing
  • Own and enhance ServiceNow IRM workflows, including issue and exception management, automated ticketing, and compliance tracking
  • Implement and maintain automated risk scoring and InfoSec criticality rating calculations based on methodology defined by the Cyber Risk Assessment team, while ensuring the logic remains aligned as the methodology evolves
  • Build and maintain custom workflows, connectors, and integrations within ServiceNow IRM to support expanding GRC Engineering use cases
  • Analyze control, risk, and exception data to identify trends, validate potential gaps, and surface issues that require remediation before they become realized risk
  • Support executive reporting by translating technical findings into clear, actionable insight on application security risk and broader cybersecurity exposure
  • Help optimize the GRC platform through automation, AI-enabled capabilities, and workflow improvements that strengthen Chubb’s cybersecurity analytics and risk management posture
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure the platform ecosystem continues to support Chubb’s broader technical environment and evolving security requirements
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of related cybersecurity engineering experience inclusive of GRC technology, IT automation, or security platform engineering
  • Hands-on ServiceNow development experience, with strong preference for the IRM module; experience with other GRC modules and/or platforms is also acceptable
  • Demonstrated Python scripting experience in a production or automation environment
  • Experience supporting cyber risk, compliance, or audit functions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • ServiceNow certification, such as CIS-IRM or equivalent, is a plus
  • Experience with API and integration development for platform connectors is a plus
  • Familiarity with insurance or financial services risk and compliance environments is a plus
