Job description

Overview
The Tech Coach is directly responsible for participant experience and engagement and contributes to the intellectual growth, emotional well-being, and sense of belonging of youth served through Digital Harbor Foundation programs.
Tech Coaches will play a key role in creating welcoming, flexible, and engaging experiences for diverse learners, including youth with autism and other neurodivergent identities. This includes facilitating hands-on activities, supporting participant feedback, and helping document insights that contribute to the ongoing development of accessible makerspace programs.
This role will support Tech Lab programming with a focus on accessibility, inclusion, and co-design, as part of Digital Harbor Foundation's National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded "Space For All" project. The Tech Coach will lead and facilitate accessible STEM and makerspace programming for youth and young adults, while also supporting light research activities that inform how to design more inclusive learning environments. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a nationally funded research project while gaining experience in inclusive STEM education, program design, and community-based research. The 2026 summer implementation will focus on piloting accessible STEM summer camp experiences that integrate creative technology, maker education, co-design, and inclusive learning practices.
This role is a temporary, grant-funded position, with continuation dependent on program needs, performance, and the availability of grant funding.
Tech Coaches will support two summer camp programs as part of the NSF-funded Space For All project. Staff onboarding and preparation will begin in June 2026, with camp programming taking place July 6 - August 7, 2026.
The two camps include:
  • Mini Makers Camp (Grades 3-5)
  • VR Storytelling & Game Design Camp (Grades 8-12)

Both camps will run Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-3:00pm at the Digital Harbor Foundation Tech Center.
Tech Coaches must be available during daytime summer camp hours, including onboarding/training sessions, camp preparation days, and camp operation weeks. Additional planning and setup hours may be scheduled as needed.

Education & Experience
  • Prior experience teaching, mentoring, or working with youth (preferred)
  • Experience in STEM, makerspaces, creative technology, or related fields (preferred)
  • Experience working with neurodivergent youth or in inclusive learning environments is a strong plus
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience in education, technology, design, or related fields
  • Bonus: Experience working with Meta Quest headsets, Unity, or VR app design projects (personal or professional)

Additional Notes
This is a fully in-person position based at the Digital Harbor Foundation Tech Center located at 1045 Light Street in Baltimore, Maryland.
Role and Responsibilities
INSTRUCTION
  • Support daily implementation of accessible STEM and maker-based summer camp activities for elementary, middle, and high school youth
  • Facilitate hands-on activities connected to engineering, creative technology, VR/game design, digital storytelling, and collaborative maker projects
  • Support daily camp operations including participant check-in/check-out, transitions, lunch support, material organization, and technology setup
  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming, structured, and engaging summer camp environment
  • Assist with participant showcases, reflection activities, and end-of-camp presentations
  • Document program activities and participant experiences through notes, photos, or shared resources

CO-DESIGN & RESEARCH SUPPORT
  • Support co-design efforts by facilitating opportunities for youth to share feedback on activities, tools, and the learning environment
  • Assist with collecting participant input during programs through structured and informal methods (e.g., discussions, reflection tools, surveys), in alignment with project research and evaluation goals
  • Collaborate with Digital Harbor Foundation staff and research partners to support data collection and observation activities
  • Help identify what is working well and what could be improved in program design, accessibility, and engagement
  • Contribute to iterative program improvement by incorporating participant feedback into future sessions

MENTORSHIP
  • Supports those served through both formal and informal mechanisms in a way that increases participant's sense of self direction and purpose
  • Leads and supervises small and large groups by recognizing potential and resolving issues.
  • Identifies skills and competencies among participants and provides appropriate coaching, training, and resources to support the professional growth of each individual.

RECRUITMENT

  • Builds relationships that provide reliable and ongoing referrals.

COMMUNITY-BUILDING
