Position Overview
The High School Freshman Head Coach is responsible for introducing and developing ninth-grade student-athletes within the athletic program. The Freshman Head Coach emphasizes foundational skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, and the transition into high school athletics. This role is essential in helping student-athletes establish habits, attitudes, and expectations that will support long-term success within the program and school community.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Freshman Volleyball Head Coach essential duties and responsibilities are as follows:
  • Organizes and supervise practices and competitions for the freshman team.
  • Teaches the fundamental skills, techniques, and strategies of the sport.
  • Establishes and reinforce standards of conduct, discipline, and teamwork.
  • Supports the overall philosophy and direction of the athletic program.
  • Helps student-athletes transition successfully into high school athletics and expectations.
  • Encourages academic responsibility and personal growth among student-athletes.
  • Communicates effectively with athletes, parents, and coaching staff.
  • Supervises athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and related activities.
  • Collaborates with upper-level coaches regarding athlete development and program alignment.
  • Assists with equipment management and administrative responsibilities as needed.
  • Promotes a positive and encouraging environment focused on growth and development.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the assigned sport and its fundamental skills and strategies.
  • Previous coaching or playing experience preferred.
  • Ability to teach, motivate, and mentor young student-athletes.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the school and athletic department.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff and administration.
  • Must successfully complete all required background checks and compliance training. The following certifications are required before you begin coaching:
    • FBI/BCI Fingerprinting
    • First Aid/CPR/AED
    • Lindsay's Law/Sudden Cardiac Arrest
    • Student Mental Health
    • Concussion in Sports
    • Fundamentals of Coaching
    • Pupil Activity Permit
