Job description

POSITION: Head Varsity Cheer Coach

SALARY: Stipend $2,500 Bi-Annually(Fall/Spring) (Paid at Completion of Season)
CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

POSITION SUMMARY

The Head Varsity Cheer Coach is responsible for leading and supervising all aspects of the school's cheer program. The coach will promote school spirit, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and positive student involvement while developing cheerleading skills, routines, and performance readiness. Responsibilities include organizing practices, supervising performances and competitions, ensuring student safety, and maintaining compliance with district and AIA regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certificate verifying completion of the NFHS online Fundamentals of Coaching course, or approved equivalent (AIA Rule 17.1). (District will pay for certification.)
  • Certificate verifying completion of the NFHS online Concussion in Sports What You Need to Know course (AIA Rule 17.1). (District will pay for certification.)
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (District-provided certification class available.)
  • Knowledge of cheerleading techniques, stunting, conditioning, safety procedures, and performance preparation
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, administration, and community stakeholders
  • Knowledge necessary to adhere to rules and regulations established by the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) and Gila Bend Unified School District No. 24

  • Attendance at mandatory district and athletic department meetings required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, organize, and conduct cheer practices, performances, and competition preparation
  • Teach and develop cheer techniques, routines, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, performances, competitions, travel, and team activities
  • Promote school spirit and positive representation of the school and athletic programs
  • Maintain accurate records, equipment inventory, eligibility requirements, and program communication
  • Coordinate team-building activities, fundraising events, and community service opportunities
  • Ensure compliance with all district, league, AIA, and NFHS policies and procedures

  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director and administration to support school and athletic program goals

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS)
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license, as transportation of students may be required
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and outside normal working hours

  • May be required to travel for competitions and related functions
