Help Document Critical Utility Operations as a Technical Writer!

* MUST be LOCAL for consideration *
Pay Rate: $40.00 - $55.17/hr (depending on experience) | Start: ASAP | Location: Scottsdale, AZ - work is Hybrid so MUST be local for consideration | Shift: 1st Shift | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Contract Length: 12 months to start, likely to extend
PDS Tech Commercial is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support the creation, revision, and maintenance of operational documentation for transmission and generation operations. In this role, you'll work closely with leadership, subject matter experts, and technical teams to develop clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation that supports safe and effective utility operations.
Key Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and review operating practices and procedures.

  • Collaborate with leadership, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), technical leads, and external stakeholders to gather technical information.

  • Develop and maintain:

    • Operating practices

    • Job aids

    • Reference materials

    • Instructional guides

    • Presentations

  • Support training teams by updating and creating training documentation.

  • Assist with special projects, reports, and program documentation.

  • Participate in operational initiatives, implementation activities, and team discussions.

  • Ensure technical information is clearly documented and easy to understand for target audiences.


Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or completion of 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum 3 years of technical writing experience.

  • Strong technical writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Ability to interpret and document complex technical information.

  • Ability to read and understand detailed technical documents and procedures.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing operating procedures or operating practices for an electric utility.

  • NERC Certification.

  • Experience supporting operations, generation, transmission, or utility environments.
