About the role:

Technical Manager will be responsible for providing technical guidance, project management, client support, methods development, results interpretation and compliance.

About you:

  • Maintain instruments: GC, detectors (TCD, SCD, FID, etc), GCMS, preconcentors, thermal desorber, canister cleaning, standard diluters. Perform routine maintenance and repairs and coordinate service when needed.
  • Knowledge of GC and GC MS methodologies for environmental analytical applications (EPA, TO compendium, ASTM) a significant plus
  • Take active role in training and developing bench level analysts, including technical theory of methodologies and instrument troubleshooting.
  • Primary interface with instrumentation and consumables vendors (Agilent, Markes, Entech, Praxair, Tekmar etc.).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with technical representatives for vendors and industry peers.
  • Consult with technical sales staff and clients regarding methods and special projects. Be available to answer client's questions.
  • Attend technical conferences, participate on committees, as relevant.
  • Utilize the requisition system to order parts and consumables.
  • Familiarity laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
  • Peer review analytical data.
  • Evaluate new technologies and instrumentation. Look for ways to improve current practices and create efficiencies.
  • Experience with Volatiles is a significant plus.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent customer services skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in organizational structure and software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Scientific field is required.
  • TO-15 experience is required.
  • 10+ years of technical experience is preferred.
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Experience in EPA VOC methods for air (i.e TO-15, TO-17 etc) and/or EPA VOC methods for soil/water (i.e. 8260, etc.) is a strong asset
  • Management experience would be an asset

Physical Demands:

  • The ability to speak and hear clearly while communicating with staff, management, and clients.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for 100% of an 8-hour day.
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate computer, syringes, and other equipment.
