Ground Operations Supervisor

This is a full time, supervisory level position in the Ground Operations Department. This position will make supervisor level decisions including daily allocation of personnel and resources within established policy and procedure. The supervisor will regularly staff the supervisor vehicle or ambulance. Must be open to working any shift, including potential night shift.

Job Description

This position is accountable for all areas of the "Paramedic" job description with the additional items.

  • Supervisory duties are generally performed in cooperation with other supervisors, the EMS Manager(s), and other managers within the organization.
  • Demonstrates and promotes professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and competence in interactions with patients, families, the public, partner agencies, coworkers, and REMSA leadership.
  • Ensure employees have a clear understanding of their responsibilities, delegated tasks, and any newly communicated policy or procedural updates to maintain operational compliance.
  • Monitors employee productivity by providing coaching, mentoring, performance evaluations, constructive feedback, and corrective action as needed.
  • Minimizes lost unit hours by continuously monitoring the schedule. Cooperate with other members of management and the administrative supervisor to correct scheduling problems.
  • Continuously monitors system performance through direct observation in the Communications Center, via radio frequencies, or through Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) systems while in the field, ensuring optimal operational efficiency.
  • Notifies senior management of significant incidents or events. Requests additional resources according to established procedures and uses best judgement to do so when situations fall outside of existing protocols.
  • Balances resources between ground, Care Flight, and other operation areas as necessary to serve the overall goals of the organization.
  • Collaborates with and supports the Communications Center and Logistics Supervisors to ensure efficient operations.
  • Evaluate, approve and coordinate requests for LDTs, Neonatal transfers, and special events coverage as per established criteria.
  • Seek advice from other supervisors or managers when appropriate and recognize issues to be escalated to senior management when appropriate.
  • Participates in all new hire interviews for paramedic level and below, offering guidance throughout the hiring process.
  • Investigates, processes, documents, and resolves Lost & Found reports.
  • Manages and processes employee subpoena requests.
  • Assists the clinical department in tracking and maintaining certification compliance.
  • Participates in chart reconciliation process and ensures timely submission of all charts to the central database (CAD Recon).
  • Must be able to work overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned; including special projects, Team Lead, and Administrative Supervisor (non-field) assignments.

Qualifications/ Experience Requirements

  • Must meet the qualifications of the Paramedic job description
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years' experience in high performance EMS service preferred.
  • Must possess an ability to independently make critical decisions based upon objective findings.
  • Must be able to handle customer and employee complaints using established guidelines and common sense.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be adaptable to a variety of working conditions and situations.
  • Must work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, especially in documentation and reporting.
  • Must have an intimate knowledge of company policy and procedure, as well as local and state regulations that govern EMS.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Teams, Word, Excel, One Drive, SharePoint, and standard computer functions.

Exercises direct supervision over Ground Operations staff.
