What is a night supervisor?

Night Supervisors are professionals responsible for overseeing operations and staff during nighttime hours in various industries, such as hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, or security. Their duties typically include ensuring safety and security, managing emergencies, supervising night shift employees, and maintaining smooth operations until the daytime staff arrives. Night Supervisors often act as the primary point of contact for any issues that arise during the night and may also handle administrative tasks or reporting. They play a crucial role in maintaining productivity and safety during non-standard working hours.

What are some common challenges faced by a night supervisor and how can they be managed effectively?

Night Supervisors often encounter challenges such as handling staffing issues, responding to emergencies, and maintaining productivity during off-hours when fewer resources are available. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are essential for prioritizing tasks and making quick decisions. Building a reliable night team and establishing clear protocols can help ensure smooth operations and a safe work environment. Regular check-ins with day supervisors also aid in addressing any unresolved issues and maintaining continuity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a night supervisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Night Supervisor, you need strong leadership abilities, time management, and prior supervisory experience, often with a high school diploma or higher. Familiarity with scheduling software, incident reporting systems, and basic security protocols is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills help you effectively manage staff and respond to overnight challenges. These skills and qualities ensure smooth operations, safety, and productivity during night shifts when resources and oversight may be limited.

Security Guards focus on patrolling and monitoring premises to prevent incidents. Both roles require security credentials, but the supervisor's role involves leadership and coordination, making it more managerial in nature.

Do night supervisor shifts pay well?

Night supervisor positions typically offer higher pay than daytime roles due to the overnight schedule and potential shift differentials. Salaries vary by industry, location, and experience, but they generally reflect the responsibilities and hours worked during less desirable shifts.

Weekend & Night Shift Security Supervisor

Reno, NV

Full-time, Other

Job description

Company Description

Sorsen Inc. delivers exceptional security guard, security patrol, corporate security and special event staffing. Protecting our client's, privacy, asssets and property is our top priority. We offer a work environment where integrity, vigilance, and excellence are highly valued. As part of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to make a tangible difference while advancing your professional career in the security industry.

Job Description

Pay: $50,000/year + performance bonus
Job Type: Full-time, Weekend & Night Shift
Location: Reno, NV (with travel to Reno-area accounts as needed)

About Sorsen

Sorsen Inc. is a licensed, fast-growing security company built on the White Glove Standard of Service. We specialize in guard services, mobile patrol, camera & surveillance, and executive protection for commercial, residential, hospitality, and government clients across Nevada, Washington, and Utah. We're not a staffing agency — our officers and supervisors are vetted, trained, and held to a standard most organizations in this industry don't require.

The Role

Reno is growing fast, and nights and weekends are when it matters most. We're looking for a dedicated Weekend & Night Shift Supervisor to own coverage during the hours when things are most likely to go sideways — call-outs, one-off projects, and field issues that can't wait until Monday. You'll be the clear point of contact for dispatch, for guards in the field, and for branch leadership during your shift, so nothing falls through the cracks after hours.

What You'll Own

Coverage & Response

  • Zero dark posts on your watch — every contracted post is staffed, no exceptions
  • Respond to call-outs and confirm replacement coverage in under 20 minutes
  • Own emergency staffing decisions for one-off projects (fire watches, special events, short-notice coverage) without waiting on next-business-day approval

Field Presence

  • Get into the field during your shift — visit posts and accounts in person, not just by phone
  • Confirm guards are meeting uniform, post-order, and engagement standards
  • Verify patrol hits are completed on schedule and fully documented, including photo requirements

Timekeeping & Documentation

  • Catch and correct timekeeping discrepancies in real time, not the next day
  • Log every significant event of your shift in Belfry before you leave — guard performance issues, client contact, call-outs, and how they were resolved
  • Keep documentation to a standard that holds up if it's ever reviewed for a dispute, complaint, or claim

Escalation & Communication

  • Be the single go-to for dispatch and branch leadership on nights and weekends — issues shouldn't have to route through another branch or wait until Monday to get resolved
  • Know when something is yours to solve and when it needs to go up the chain — and make that call fast

What We're Looking For

  • Experience supervising security, guard, or field operations staff (2+ years preferred)
  • Comfortable making staffing and response decisions independently, under pressure, without a script
  • Strong documentation habits — clear, factual, and timely
  • Reliable availability for weekend and night shifts, including holidays
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between Reno-area accounts
  • Nevada PILB registration (or ability to obtain prior to start)

Compensation & Benefits

  • $50,000/year base + performance bonus
  • Direct reporting line to the Reno General Manager
  • Real ownership of a standing role — not a temp fix or a catch-all position
