Job description

Job Title: Student Accounts Assistant
Reports to: Executive Assistant to President
Department: Bursar - Student Accounts
Location: San Diego Campus
Compensation: $20 - $25 per hour; Contractor (1099)

Position Summary
The Student Accounts Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the Student Accounts Office, providing front-line service to students and families regarding tuition payments, billing, and account questions. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and a strong ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced, student-focused environment. The Student Accounts Assistant supports collaboration across related departments, including Financial Aid and the Registrar’s Office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person, phone, and email support to students and families regarding tuition, fees, payments, and account balances
  • Assist students with navigating online tools such as the Student Portal and promote self-service access
  • Process and post student payments accurately and maintain up-to-date records in the student information system
  • Support billing adjustments, stipend preparation, and daily reconciliation tasks under direction
  • Monitor and respond to general inquiries related to student accounts in a timely and professional manner
  • Assist in preparing and sending account notices, reminders, and balance notifications
  • Help maintain organized student account files and ensure compliance with confidentiality standards
  • Schedule appointments, organize communications, and perform other administrative tasks as needed
  • Participate in events such as Orientation, Registration Days, and other school functions when appropriate
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of the Student Accounts Office

Qualifications

  • Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1–2 years of customer service or administrative support experience, preferably in a higher education or student services setting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly and efficiently
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with student information systems (CampusVue experience is a plus)
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well with students, families, and colleagues in a diverse environment
