Job description

The Stark County Park District is currently seeking a full time Crew Worker to be a part of our Maintenance & Construction team building and maintaining parks and trails within an 8000+ acre park system in Stark County. Essential Functions:

  • Performs lawn maintenance (effectively operating a variety of lawn maintenance equipment) including cutting and trimming grass, trimming trees and bushes, and is responsible for trash removal and snow removal at different park locations, as needed.
  • Perform trail maintenance duties including working in a two-to-four-person crew completing tasks such as operation of appropriate small and large equipment (chipper, brush hog, mower, chainsaw, etc.), spreading materials, measuring progress, signage installations, etc.
  • Safely and effectively uses a variety of hand and power tools and equipment in performance of trail maintenance and/or construction duties; responsible for complying with a variety of safety regulations and maintaining clean and orderly work areas and park owned vehicles.
  • Perform custodial type duties such as event clean up, trash pickup, emptying trash and recycling receptacles, cleaning restrooms etc. at various Park sites throughout Stark County, as needed.
  • Effectively interacts with park patrons and manages difficult situations involving patron concerns appropriately.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Skills/Experience/Abilities:

  • Ability to work productively independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of various hand tools, lawn mowers/trimmers and other grounds equipment
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to Park patrons as well as internally
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors, around bodies of water and in varying extreme weather conditions (extreme heat and cold)
  • Ability to regularly walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch
  • Ability to frequently handle and lift, push and pull, heavy objects in excess of 50 lbs. without assistance

Basic Requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older, high school diploma or equivalent preferred, not required. Relevant work experience preferred but not required. Valid Driver's License required.

Due to the nature of this position the physical requirements include the ability use hands and fingers to handle/feel, frequently required to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, stoop, kneel and crouch continuously throughout the workday. Ability to frequently lift/carry, push/pull up to 50 lbs. without assistance. Vision abilities include close, distance and peripheral vision. Frequently exposed to moderate to loud noise levels. Frequent exposure to airborne dusts, dirt, fumes, and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Hours: Must be able to work 7:00a to 3:00p, Monday through Friday with possibility of additional hours, including weekends at season peaks.

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Must be eligible for employment in the United States. Pre-employment background check and drug screening will be performed.
