1. Job Overview
A Maintenance Technician installs, tests, repairs, and maintains plant production machinery, support equipment, building, and other systems throughout the site to maintain optimum operating conditions and plant productivity. Maintenance Technician also assists with related upgrades, improvements, and assigned projects as required.

3. Principal Accountabilities
  • Receives and performs job assignments through work orders, sketches, PM schedules, blueprints, or verbal instructions. Follows applicable codes and regulations on work performed.
  • Responds to emergency requests for repairs/replacements.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate and remedy the breakdown or malfunction.
  • Installation of conduits, wire connections to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Repair or replace wiring, equipment and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair. Ensures compliance to code.
  • Repairs and maintains a variety of production machinery and equipment.
  • Installs, modifies, and relocates machinery and equipment and in addition to electrical related work, may perform fabrication, welding, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, or other maintenance tasks.
  • Repairs and modifies building and plant systems as required.
  • Reads and interprets manuals, schematics, blueprints, drawings, and other written installation and repair instructions.
  • Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance of assigned plant equipment, machinery and systems including gauges, filters, fluid levels, system readings, cooling tower, gas burners, air compressors, chillers, etc.
  • Requisitions and secures materials, tools, and supplies needed for assignments.
  • Uses a variety of measuring and testing equipment to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair machinery, equipment and systems.
  • Uses a wide range of shop, hand, and power tools common to the various trades applied.
  • Maintains specified records, logs, and system readings.
  • Possesses knowledge of mechanical blueprint reading.
  • Follow prescribed environmental, safety and health rules.
  • Complies with sanitation guidelines and good manufacturing practices related to neatness, product cleanliness and personal hygiene.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

6. Qualifications/Requirements
6.1 Formal Qualifications and Experience
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Combination of technical training or on the job experience equivalent to that generally obtained in a two-year college or apprenticeship program.
  • Understands, adheres to, and reinforces EHS policies and directives.
  • Ability to work independently and in concert with Mechanical Technician as well as production co-workers.
  • Minimum 2 years manufacturing work experience and/or 1 year Maintenance Technician with experience & training to include at least one of the following:
    • Process Control & Instrumentation (temperature, flow, pressure, level, etc.)
    • Power Distribution (480 VAC & below)
    • Machine Controls
  • With proper training:
    • Can perform all required PM checklists (Lamination, Printing, Slitting, Building Infrastructure)
    • Skilled in troubleshooting and repair of plant equipment electronic circuits and systems.
    • Can perform all required ISO Calibration for plant production equipment.

6.2 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviours

  • Knowledge of general maintenance techniques, processes, and procedures for the repair, installation, and modification of a variety of company equipment, systems, and facilities.
  • Skilled in the use of basic hand, shop and power tools and wide range of test and measuring equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maintenance manuals, schematics, and drawings.
  • Ability to conduct various tests to systems and must know and apply appropriate regulations and standards.
  • Forklift Certification or ability to obtain same.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions on the most appropriate approach to solving problems.
  • Effective creative thinking and trouble shooting skills.
  • Good critical judgement and initiative.
  • Ability to cooperate well with others to follow safety procedures and prevent injuries.

Compensation:
  • The starting rate of pay for this position is $27.00; however, starting pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
