Job description

The Secretary of State (SOS), Management Services Division, is recruiting to fill a permanent, full-time Mailing Machines Operator I position to perform a variety of functions for an exciting and fast-paced organization. The position is located in downtown Sacramento, near Light Rail, K Street Mall, and other amenities in the rich architectural styled SOS building.
Under the direction of a Business Services Office I (Supervisor), a Mailing Machines Operator I executes increasingly complex duties related to the processing of incoming and outgoing United States and other carrier mail and agency mail; develops mailing machine operating skills required to process the departmental workload; and performs other related work. Candidates must be able to work well independently and in a team environment and must be able to adjust to changing priorities while meeting deadlines.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience operating, adjusting, running, and maintaining mailing machines and related equipment
  • Ability to quickly learn effective and safe operation of the SOS' mailing machines as well as metering machines and FedEx equipment
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to meet deadlines, sometimes under pressure, and independently monitor simple cost and production records
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite and mail costing and sorting techniques preferred
  • Ability to walk/stand up for up to 8 hours and to frequently lift, carry, and/or push by cart/dolly mail trays and large packages up to 50 pounds
  • Must have good communication and customer service skills, good attendance, and dependability
  • Must maintain a valid CA driver's license and be able to operate State owned motorized vehicles

Working Conditions
Due to business needs, no telework option is offered for this position. This position will be expected to be 100% on-site to perform normal duties. Requires full range of body motion including sitting, standing, carrying, and lifting up to 50 lbs on a frequent basis, and walking, pushing and pulling up to 1,000 lbs assisted by cart/dolly, electric pallet jack and/or coworker. Must be able to walk/stand up to 8 hours daily. Must be able to work in a dusty and noisy environment. Must maintain a valid CA driver's license and be able to operate state owned motorized vehicles.

Please include all the required documents necessary to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications for this classification (i.e., degree, transcript, license, and certificate).
