What is a service advisor dispatcher?

A Service Advisor Dispatcher is a professional in the automotive or service industry who acts as a liaison between customers, service technicians, and management. They are responsible for scheduling and dispatching service work, ensuring that customer needs are clearly communicated to the technicians, and that work is completed efficiently. Service Advisor Dispatchers also provide estimates, track the progress of repairs, and maintain records of service activities. Their role is crucial in maintaining workflow, customer satisfaction, and optimal use of technician resources.

How does a service advisor dispatcher balance customer communication with coordinating repair schedules?

A Service Advisor Dispatcher plays a dual role, acting as the main point of contact for customers while also ensuring technicians' schedules are efficiently managed. Balancing these responsibilities requires strong organizational skills, as you'll often need to update customers on repair statuses while simultaneously dispatching jobs based on technician availability and skill set. Effective communication and time management are crucial, as you'll be handling multiple requests and prioritizing urgent repairs without compromising service quality. Collaboration with both customers and the service team is key to maintaining workflow and customer satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a service advisor dispatcher?

To thrive as a Service Advisor Dispatcher, you need strong organizational skills, automotive service knowledge, and experience in customer service, typically supported by a high school diploma or relevant technical training. Familiarity with dealership management software, scheduling systems, and repair order processing tools is commonly required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities help you effectively coordinate between customers, technicians, and service departments. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring efficient workflow, customer satisfaction, and effective service operations.

Is a service advisor dispatcher a good entry level job?

A service advisor dispatcher is often considered an entry-level position in automotive or service industries, involving customer communication, scheduling, and basic administrative tasks. It can provide valuable experience in customer service, communication skills, and understanding service operations, making it suitable for those starting their careers. Advancement opportunities may require additional skills or certifications, such as automotive knowledge or technical training.

Is it hard to get hired as a service advisor dispatcher?

Getting hired as a service advisor dispatcher typically requires good communication skills, knowledge of automotive or service industry operations, and sometimes prior experience in customer service or dispatch roles. Job description

Description

Johnson RV is looking for sharp problem-solvers to join our service team. If you're a fast learner with strong computer skills, focused customer service, and a knack for staying organized, we can teach you the rest. We invest in you; Service Advisors every year get an average of 100 hours' classroom-style in-house training from leading industry experts plus daily on-the-job training. All service staff have the opportunity to complete RVTI (RV Technical Institute) certification, so you'll build real, portable industry credentials on our dime.

This is a fast-paced, people-facing role. You'll be the main point of contact between our customers and our technicians - greeting customers, scheduling and tracking work orders, explaining repairs and costs clearly, and keeping everyone in the loop from drop-off to pickup. You'll juggle multiple systems and shifting priorities throughout the day, so being organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable navigating software (dealer management software, email, spreadsheets, etc.) matters just as much as your people skills.

If you're naturally curious, quick to pick up new tools and processes, and take pride in doing things right the first time, we want to talk to you - RV background optional, sharp mind required.

Responsibilities

Greet service department customers promptly and professionally, setting the tone for a great experience

Listen carefully to customer concerns and translate them into clear, accurate instructions for technicians

Provide accurate, well-documented estimates for repairs and maintenance

Track repair status across our service system and proactively update customers

Submit and follow up on manufacturer warranty claims accurately and on time

Notify customers promptly when their RV or trailer is ready for pickup

Review completed repairs and costs with customers in plain, clear language

Resolve minor customer concerns calmly and effectively; escalate when needed

Keep the Service Manager informed of problems or potential problems before they grow

Help maintain strong Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) scores through consistent, quality communication

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Strong computer skills and comfort learning new software/systems quickly are essential

A sharp, focused mindset with genuine attention to detail

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and reprioritize on the fly

Solid problem-solving instincts and sound judgment under pressure

A team player with well-developed interpersonal skills who works well with a wide range of personalities

Self-motivated, dependable, and results-oriented

Prior service advisor, dispatching, or customer service experience is a plus, but not required

Prior warranty claims experience is a plus, but not required

No RV industry experience necessary - we provide in-house training and support RVTI certification to set you up for success.
