Job description

Title: Senior Process Safety Engineer
Location: Freeport, Tx
Salary: $140,000 - $169,500
Schedule: 9/80 or 5-8s

Focus: The Senior Process Safety Engineer serves as a site technical resource for process safety, driving compliance with regulatory requirements, Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP), and industry best practices. This role provides advanced technical expertise and leadership in implementing and sustaining process safety programs across the site. This position influences strategic decisions, mentors engineers, and leads high-impact process safety initiatives to ensure risk reduction and operational excellence.
Senior Process Safety Engineer Essential Responsibilities:
  • Act as a site subject matter expert (SME) for process safety, providing guidance on complex technical issues and regulatory interpretations.
  • Lead and own the site's PSM and RMP programs, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement. Manage and lead advanced hazard analysis studies (PHA, LOPA, HAZOP, FMEA) for new and existing processes, including high-risk modifications.
  • Execute gap assessments against Olin process safety fundamentals through collaboration with facility resources and subject matter owners. Support facilities in understanding and application of Olin process safety fundamentals and loss prevention principles.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables for compliance with process safety standards and RAGAGEP.
  • Develop and implement advanced methodologies for consequence modeling, quantitative risk analysis, SIL/SIS verification, and relief system design.
  • Serve as a key technical resource during audits, incident investigations, and root cause analyses. Collaborate with corporate and site leadership to influence capital project design and operational strategies for risk reduction.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide training to operations and maintenance teams on process safety fundamentals. Drive strategic process safety initiatives, including risk assessments, gap closure plans, and cultural improvements.

Senior Process Safety Engineer Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree* in Engineering; Chemical Engineering degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of chemical industry experience, Process Safety Management, or similar process safety function.
  • Demonstrated expertise in PSM/RMP compliance and advanced risk analysis. Experience with consequence modeling, SIL/SIS lifecycle management, and relief system design.
  • Proven ability to lead complex hazard analyses and implement risk mitigation strategies. Strong knowledge of OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910) and EPA RMP (40 CFR 68) regulations.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills to drive safety culture improvements.
  • Prior Olin experience in a relevant position preferred
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) and possess a valid US Driver's license
