Job Overview

Position Summary: The Sr. Civil-Structural CAD Designer is responsible for creating detailed 2D and 3D structural drawings and models using software such as AutoCAD, Cadworx Structure, and Civil 3D. This role requires the ability to work with minimal supervision from lead designers and/or engineers while efficiently managing assigned tasks. The Sr. Designer is expected to have a thorough understanding of the processes and workflows for developing comprehensive construction packages, including drafting, modeling, performing quality checks, and ensuring compliance with project standards and specifications. In addition to producing high-quality deliverables, the Sr. Designer will collaborate effectively with the project team to meet deadlines and address any challenges or discrepancies that may arise during the design process. Under the supervision of engineering, the Sr. Designer will interpret and refine concepts and sketches into construction drawings, while also delegating drafting or modeling tasks to CAD Designers as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of assigned projects or tasks, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
  • Participate in minimal site visits as required to verify as-built conditions or gather field data.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Cadworx Structure, and Civil 3D.
  • Produce detailed 2D drawings for structural components and systems using AutoCAD.
  • Develop range of simple and complex 3D grading and earthwork models using Civil 3D.
  • Produce grading plans, profiles, and detailed views from Civil 3D.
  • Perform quantity take-offs from models.
  • Develop range of simple and complex 3D structural models using CADWorx Structure.
  • Use data referencing, x-references, and file coordination in a CAD environment.
  • Ensure drawings and models adhere to project specifications, industry, and client/internal standards.
  • Preparing deliverables for client submissions.
  • Maintain records of revisions and markups through scope of project.
  • Delegate tasks to CAD Designers, manages their own tasks, and supports the Lead Designer in coordinating the overall workflow.
  • Review and oversee work completed by CAD Designers to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Serve as a resource for CAD Designers, providing mentorship and support as needed.
  • Be familiar with internal, client, and industry standards.
  • Perform thorough quality checks of own work and the work of CAD Designers before submission to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Review vendor information checking critical information is provided and vendor drawings align with design models and drawings.
  • Maintain consistency in drafting output and ensure all files are organized according to data management protocols.
  • Work closely with structural engineers and other disciplines to ensure drawings meet project goals.
  • Participate in internal project meetings as required by the discipline lead.
  • Manage on-demand tasks as assigned by the lead and communicate any potential impacts on other tasks.
  • Address design challenges, discrepancies, or missing information in coordination with the project team.
