What is a sales negotiator?

Sales negotiators work out the details of contracts, leases, and other agreements with clients. As a sales negotiator, you cultivate relationships with clients to promote products and services. You typically find sales negotiators in real estate, though there are sales negotiators in other industries. You are the first line of communication between a prospect and the agency for which you work. Sales negotiators often work in the field, but many also keep regular office hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales negotiator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Negotiator, you need strong sales acumen, negotiation skills, and a solid understanding of the market, often supported by relevant sales experience or a business-related qualification. Familiarity with CRM systems, sales tracking software, and digital communication tools is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, persuasive communication, and resilience help individuals excel in building client relationships and closing deals. These competencies are crucial for meeting sales targets, maximizing revenue, and fostering long-term customer loyalty.

What are some common challenges sales negotiators face when balancing client expectations and company policies?

Sales Negotiators often encounter situations where client requests exceed what the company can offer, such as demanding lower prices or additional services. Successfully managing these scenarios involves clear communication, strong product knowledge, and the ability to diplomatically explain company policies while still aiming to satisfy client needs. Building trust and rapport with clients is essential, as is collaborating closely with internal teams like legal and finance to ensure agreements are both compliant and beneficial. Developing negotiation strategies that align client expectations with company goals is a valuable skill that grows with experience.

An Estate Agent typically has industry-specific certifications and handles a broader range of property sales and client management. The roles often overlap in real estate, but the Estate Agent role usually encompasses more responsibilities and formal credentials.

How much do sales negotiators get paid?

Sales negotiators typically earn a base salary plus commissions, with total earnings ranging from $25,000 to $60,000 annually depending on experience, industry, and sales performance. Entry-level roles may start lower, while experienced negotiators in high-value sectors can earn significantly more.

Job description

Work Location: In person (hybrid)

Come build something real at a fast-growing tech startup, where your work on day one actually moves the business. We're looking for someone with real negotiation instinct who's ready to close high-stakes, two-party deals.

The Role

As our Sales Representative, you'll negotiate domain deals directly between buyers and sellers. This isn't lead generation; the leads exist. What we need is someone who can pick up a live negotiation, understand what both sides actually want, and drive it to a close that works for everyone. No domain industry experience needed; we're looking for instinct, confidence, and the drive to see a deal through even when it gets complicated.

What you'll do:

  • Negotiate directly with both buyers and sellers on live domain transactions
  • Manage each deal from active negotiation through signed close
  • Represent Atom professionally over email and phone in high-stakes conversations
  • Read what each party actually needs and structure terms that get deals done
  • Keep deals moving and communicate clearly at every stage
  • Flag sticking points early and problem-solve through them rather than letting deals stall

What you bring:

  • 1-3 years in sales, negotiation, or a high-stakes client-facing role
  • Real negotiation instinct: the ability to read a room, hold a position, and find the close
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • High ownership mindset and follow-through, even when a deal gets difficult
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, startup-style environment
  • No domain industry experience required; aptitude and drive matter more than background

Bonus: experience in real estate, high-ticket sales, or other two-party negotiation environments

Why You'll Like It Here

  • Real negotiation experience from day one, not lead gen or scripted selling
  • Direct mentorship from experienced operators in the domain and branding space
  • Exposure to high-value deals and real decision-making
  • 401(k), health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off
