Job description

Vice President / Director of Compliance
Affordable Housing | Florida-Based | Hybrid

A growing, Florida-based affordable housing owner/operator is seeking a seasoned Vice President / Director of Compliance to build and lead a best-in-class compliance function across a diverse portfolio. This is a newly created, high-impact role designed for a true expert in both HUD and LIHTC programs—a rare combination that will shape the organization’s compliance strategy as it continues to expand, including potential third-party management.

This position offers flexibility on location within Florida, with a hybrid structure and statewide travel required—especially in the early stages to assess and standardize compliance practices across properties.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the EVP of Property Management, this leader will serve as the organization’s top compliance authority, overseeing regulatory adherence, audits, and policy development across a portfolio spanning South Florida, Orlando/Tampa, Jacksonville, and the Panhandle. Initially, this role will be highly hands-on, with direct involvement at the property level before building out a more scalable compliance infrastructure.

You’ll lead and mentor a small team (2 Compliance Specialists to start), while partnering closely with operations, asset management, and executive leadership. This role requires a balance of strategic thinking and tactical execution, along with the ability to communicate clearly across all levels—from site teams to senior leadership and external partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all aspects of compliance across the affordable housing portfolio, ensuring adherence to HUD, LIHTC, HOME, SAIL, BOND, SHIP, and NHTF programs
  • Oversee audits, inspections, and reporting for housing agencies, investors, and syndicators; implement corrective action plans as needed
  • Establish and standardize compliance policies, procedures, and best practices across the portfolio
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, including HUD and Florida Housing
  • Oversee compliance systems (Yardi or similar), ensuring data integrity, reporting accuracy, and proper configuration
  • Review and ensure quality control of all resident certifications (initial, annual, interim)
  • Manage reasonable accommodation requests in compliance with Fair Housing, ADA, and Section 504
  • Design and deliver training programs for property management teams on compliance requirements and updates (LIHTC, HOTMA, Fair Housing, etc.)
  • Monitor regulatory changes and proactively guide the organization through updates and implementation
  • Support leadership in evaluating and building out third-party management compliance capabilities
What We’re Looking For
  • Must be based in Florida with deep, hands-on experience in Florida affordable housing compliance
  • 5+ years of experience in a Director or VP-level compliance role (7–10+ years total experience preferred)
  • Proven expertise in both HUD and LIHTC programs (non-negotiable)
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence, train, and support both site teams and senior stakeholders
  • Experience managing audits, regulatory relationships, and complex, multi-program portfolios
  • Excellent communication skills—clear, direct, and adaptable across audiences
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask and operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager or similar platforms preferred
  • Relevant certifications (HCCP, COS, TCS, CPO) strongly preferred
Why Join
  • Newly created leadership role with high visibility and impact
  • Opportunity to build and shape the compliance function from the ground up
  • Collaborative, growth-oriented culture
  • Competitive compensation + bonus potential
  • Company-paid employee insurance

This is an ideal opportunity for a compliance leader who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys building structure from the ground up, and brings both the expertise and presence to elevate compliance across a growing organization.
