Job description

Job Title: Development Intern 

Department: Development 

Reports to: Senior Manager, Development 

Effective Date:  Summer 2026 

Location: Hybrid, NY

Travel: 15% 

POSITION PURPOSE:    

This is a temporary, non-exempt position that will be reporting to the Senior Manager, Development. This individual will be responsible for regional market, permitting and interconnection research. this job requires a person who can act independently to complete discrete task assignments with resources provided by KCE and the position supervisor. the position requires minimal travel to the KCE Office in Albany/Brooklyn and to project locations to meet with local officials.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Permitting Research & Support for New York

  • Compile information from project areas to understand local opinions and attitudes to battery energy storage/renewable energy development.

  • Assemble information from the permitting of energy storage from other projects in New York.

  • Support permitting efforts as needed for project in development.

  • Regional Market Research for New York and England

  • Assemble information from approved transmission upgrade projects in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.

  • Compile research to support long-term regional strategic planning.

  • Support community outreach event for projects located in New York.
  • All other duties as required.


WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:  

  •  Development experience within the respected region is a plus.
  • Ability to travel. Driver's license preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with project management including scoping projects, estimating costs, and creating schedule and budgets using management software such as Excel, MS Project and Smartsheet.
  • Microsoft Office products experience.
  • Experience with GIS software.
  • Experience with land acquisition is a plus.
  • Knowledge of local and state-level permitting processes. Prior legal experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of grid-scale batteries, renewable energy, energy markets, and electrical engineering is a plus.
  • Proven experience delivering time-sensitive projects.
  • Ability to work in a small team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to climb or balance
  • Must be able to stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Must have the ability to identify and distinguish colors, accommodations can be provided.
