Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Application Engineer - IT Racks and Cabinets provide technical pre-sales support to targeted partners & national resellers for IT server cabinet sales application or datacenter rack infrastructure offerings. This position provides configuration assistance or actual product configuration development, interaction with national resellers technical teams on their customer application requirements, bid spec reviews and compliance documentation, and competitive cross-reference inputs. In addition, provide technical guidance or clarification to national reseller sales teams on how to best position information for effective selling. This position will primarily interface with the national reseller technical teams, national reseller sales teams, and the Vertiv Sales teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical pre-sales support between Vertiv and targeted resellers.
  • Provide pre-sales quality technical application support to sales personnel and customers. Support the proper selection and sizing of products and accessories, accurately explain and discuss product features and applications, and support sales efforts and facilitate order capture rates.
  • Collaborate with sales personnel to identify requirements and provide quotations for custom configurations.
  • Collaborate and communicate closely with Vertiv field sales teams supporting same opportunity.
  • Review or generate the optimized Vertiv configuration to solve a specific national reseller opportunity set of application requirements.
  • Assist in technical sales positioning on proposals considering specifications, competition, winning criteria (e.g. price or performance or efficiency or footprint).
  • Provide technical sales support to targeted national resellers via training and presentations.
  • Serve as escalation point for national resellers on basic technical pre-sales questions. 
  • Assist in defining technical pre-sales elements supporting marketing collateral.
  • Provide pre-sale applications engineering support via phone, e-mail, and web to national resellers.
  • Provide competitive evaluations to national resellers when appropriate.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, operations management, marketing, mechanical engineering, computer science, or other degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience). 
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in a sales support or manufacturing support role; a technical support role a custom design support role, or inside sales support role. 
  • Working knowledge of IT server cabinet sales application or datacenter rack infrastructure OR electronic circuits and electrical distribution systems OR working knowledge of networking and IT infrastructure 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently. 
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office Suite. 
  • Highly detail-oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentation skills.
  • Capability of effectively interacting with global personnel.
  • Professional attitude towards customer relations.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 2-3 years of industry experience, Cabinet and Rack systems or datacenter infrastructure focus
  • Familiarity with of IT server cabinet sales application or rack datacenter infrastructure
  • Familiarity with UPS and power distribution products 
  • Familiarity with HVAC operation / principles
