Job description

Summary/Objective:

The Report Developer is a dedicated, detail-oriented professional responsible for executing, maintaining, improving, and developing business reports that support operational and business decision-making across the organization. This role will initially focus on daily and weekly operational reporting execution and maintenance for Supply Chain, improving accuracy, usability, and efficiency of existing reports. Over time, the role will transition toward broader report development and increased ad hoc reporting needs across the business as Supply Chain reporting stabilizes and the organization expands ERP and BI capabilities, including the transition to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Tools & Reporting Environment

  • Current environment is heavily Microsoft Excel-based reporting supporting Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains).

  • Current ERP reporting access is primarily through GP reporting tools (e.g., SmartList Designer); direct SQL-based report development access is not currently available.

  • Operational data also exists in an out-of-ERP Transportation Management System (TMS), requiring periodic validation/reconciliation between sources.

  • Future environment will shift reporting into Power BI and Aptean BI as the organization implements and expands Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, while continuing to support Excel-based reporting where needed.

Essential Functions: The Report Developer is responsible for executing, maintaining, and developing reports that support business operations and decision-making. Essential functions include running and distributing recurring reports, validating and improving report accuracy, optimizing reporting processes, and developing reporting solutions that meet evolving business needs. This role collaborates with internal stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, improve visibility into business performance, and support data-driven decision-making. The role also supports ERP implementation and reporting alignment efforts as the organization transitions from Dynamics GP (Great Plains) to Business Central and expands BI capabilities.

Responsibilities/Skills/Abilities:

Report Execution & Maintenance (Initial Focus)

  • Execute and distribute daily and weekly Supply Chain operational reports accurately and on time.

  • Run, maintain, and distribute current reports that support the business in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Monitor report outputs for completeness and accuracy; investigate and resolve discrepancies or anomalies.

  • Maintain report schedules, distribution lists, and refresh processes to ensure consistency and reliability.

Report Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Review existing reports and reporting processes to identify opportunities for optimization, efficiency, and improved usability.

  • Reduce manual steps through standardization, templates, and process improvements where feasible.

  • Standardize reporting formats, definitions, and calculations to support a consistent ?single source of truth.?

  • Recommend improvements to reporting tools, processes, and system capabilities based on observed needs and stakeholder feedback.

Enhancement Queue & Prioritization

  • Manage a queue/backlog of report enhancements and upgrades; document requirements, estimated effort, and target timelines.

  • Participate in a recurring stakeholder prioritization meeting to review the queue, confirm priorities, and align delivery commitments.

  • Proactively identify and propose report upgrades and then execute approved improvements through completion.

  • Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to stakeholders.

Report Development (Continued Growth)

  • Develop, modify, and maintain reports based on business needs and stakeholder requirements.

  • Support reporting tied to operations, supply chain, purchasing, inventory, customer, financial, or other business functions as needed.

  • As Supply Chain reporting stabilizes, expand support for more ad hoc reporting requests and cross-functional reporting initiatives.

Data Validation & Multi-Source Reporting

  • Validate report accuracy and work to resolve data discrepancies, inconsistencies, and reporting issues.

  • Reconcile and validate data between ERP and external sources (e.g., TMS) when reporting requires multi-system views.

  • Implement basic quality checks and exception flags for high-impact recurring reports.

Documentation & User Enablement

  • Document report logic, data sources, refresh cadence, and business definitions to support consistency and knowledge sharing.

  • Create and maintain a ?How to Read This Report? guide for each new report and any report that is modified (purpose, key definitions, filters, refresh cadence, known caveats).

  • Maintain a report catalog (report name, owner, purpose, cadence, distribution list, and data sources).

Access & Controls

  • Support least-privilege access practices by limiting report visibility and edit capability to users who have a business need.

  • Maintain confidentiality of company, customer, and financial information.

ERP / BI Transition Support

  • Support ERP implementation efforts through report development and reporting process alignment within Business Central.

  • Partner with stakeholders to align KPI definitions and reporting requirements as the organization adopts Power BI and Aptean BI.

  • Help develop, enhance, and maintain reporting capabilities within the new system environment as ERP and BI functionality expands.

Work Experience Requirements:

  • 3?5 years of experience in report development, reporting analysis, business reporting, or a similar role is generally required.

  • Experience running, maintaining, and improving recurring daily/weekly business reports is preferred.

  • Experience with ERP reporting tools and data validation is essential.

  • Previous experience supporting ERP implementations or reporting transitions is highly desirable.

  • Previous experience in food, manufacturing, distribution, supply chain, or related industries is beneficial.

Education/Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelor?s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Data Analytics, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related field is typically required.

  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.

  • Strong knowledge of business reporting, report development, and data validation is essential.
