Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Conducting thorough intake assessments and screenings to evaluate the mental health needs of students, which will guide personalized treatment plans.
• Providing short-term individual counseling focused on managing stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns impacting students’ academic success.
• Facilitating engaging therapy groups and workshops that address topics such as time management, coping strategies, and self-care, tailored specifically for college students.
• Collaborating with various campus departments, including academic advisors and residence life staff, to promote integrated support services aimed at enhancing student life.
• Participating actively in campus outreach programs, including mental health awareness campaigns and wellness events, fostering a culture of mental health positivity.
• Maintaining up-to-date, confidential patient records in accordance with ethical and legal requirements, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

The counselor will primarily serve a diverse student population, encompassing a wide range of backgrounds and mental health needs. Understanding the unique pressures and challenges that college students face is essential, as you will be addressing issues such as adjustment disorders, academic stress, relationship concerns, and more. You will play a crucial role in shaping a supportive environment that empowers students to seek help and thrive throughout their university journey.

To qualify for this position, you will need:

• A current and valid license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD).
• A master's or doctoral degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field.
• A strong understanding of the various mental health challenges specifically facing college students, combined with demonstrated commitment to their well-being.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively connect with students, fostering a trusting therapeutic relationship.
• Familiarity with evidence-based practices and brief therapeutic models commonly utilized in university counseling settings.

Additionally, having a minimum of two years of relevant counseling experience in a higher education environment is strongly preferred. Experience working with diverse populations, including first-generation college students, international students, and those in crisis is a plus.
