Industry: HVAC | Mechanical | Electrical | Plumbing Contracting (MEP+)

Position Summary

The Manager of Project Accounting is a key member of the finance team who will be responsible for accurate financial records across a portfolio of active construction projects in the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades. In this role, you'll work closely with project managers, field supervisors, and business finance team members to produce Work-in-Process (WIP) integrity, percentage-of-completion (POC) accuracy, and financial visibility across active projects - while modernizing processes and building a high-performing function.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Full ownership of WIP reporting + POC accounting (ASC 606, cost-to-cost)
  • Financial health of a live project portfolio (margin, billing, risk visibility)
  • Partnership with Project Managers & field teams to ensure accurate forecasting
  • Billing lifecycle (AIA - G702/G703, T&M, change orders, AR tracking)
  • Audit leadership + surety/bonding support
  • Process improvement across systems, workflows, and controls

What You'll Bring (Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7-12+ years project accounting in construction, mechanical, or specialty trades in contracting
  • Deep experience with:
    • POC accounting + WIP schedules
    • Job cost / cost coding discipline
    • AIA billing + subcontract management
  • Proficiency with construction management software (e.g. Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint Vista, Foundation, Spectrum, or similar); experience with NetSuite ERP is strongly preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel + financial modeling capability
  • Able to partner with field-first, non-financial operators (PMs, supers)
