Job description

We are partnering with a growing, services-based organization seeking a Project Accountant to support project billing, cost tracking, and overall financial organization of active projects. This is a highly visible role that works closely with project managers, accounting, and leadership.

This is not just a transactional billing role—the right candidate will be able to stay organized across multiple projects, understand how jobs are structured financially, and help keep projects moving from billing through cash collection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit project invoices, including deposit, progress, and final billings
  • Support project billing workflows, including schedules of values (SOV), payment applications, and lien waivers
  • Track billing status by project, including billed to date, accounts receivable, retention, and outstanding items
  • Monitor project costs and assist with overall job-level financial organization
  • Partner with project managers to ensure accurate billing and alignment between estimates, costs, and invoicing
  • Identify discrepancies between estimates, billing, and actual project performance
  • Collaborate with project managers, accounting, and leadership to support project execution and financial visibility
  • Assist with collections by maintaining accurate billing records and supporting follow-up efforts
  • Contribute to improving processes and consistency across project accounting and billing workflows

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting or project accounting experience
  • Direct experience with project billing, job costing, and construction-style or project-based invoicing
  • Working knowledge of AIA billing, schedules of values (SOV), lien waivers, retention, and change-related billing
  • Experience reviewing project estimates and monitoring cost components, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and travel
  • Experience with purchase orders, vendor invoice review, and cost approvals
  • Strong understanding of accounts receivable, collections support, and project-level financial reporting
  • Strong Excel skills and close attention to detail
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with sales, operations, and accounting in a fast-paced environment
  • Clear communicator who can identify issues early and drive follow-up
