We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Project Accountant to support a large-scale state-funded construction project. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial management, compliance, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in construction project accounting, proficiency with industry-specific software, and a solid understanding of project controls.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage all project-related accounting functions, including job cost tracking, invoicing, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Monitor and analyze project costs to ensure alignment with approved budgets and funding requirements
  • Track, analyze, and validate change orders or amendments, ensuring accurate cost capture and budget alignment
  • Prepare monthly cost reports, variance analyses, and cash flow projections for project stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and project controls teams to maintain financial accuracy
  • Process and track subcontractor payments, invoices, and change orders
  • Ensure compliance with state regulations, contract requirements, and audit standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation for audits and reporting purposes
  • Support funding draw requests and grant compliance, if applicable
  • Track and report Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Women Business Enterprise (WBE), and Veteran Business Enterprise (VBE) participation in accordance with state and contract requirements
  • Monitor subconsultant compliance with diversity participation goals and funding provisions
  • Support preparation and submission of required diversity and inclusion reports to state agencies
  • Maintain accurate records of certified vendors and participation percentages
  • Assist with audits and reviews related to minority participation and equal opportunity compliance
  • Review, track, and maintain Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for partners and subconsultants to ensure compliance with contractual and state requirements, including coverage limits and expiration dates
  • Identify and implement process improvements across accounting, project management, and reporting systems

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years of experience in construction or project accounting, preferably on large public or state-funded projects
  • Proficiency in construction/project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Procore, Autodesk)
  • Strong understanding of project controls, cost management, and forecasting methodologies
  • Experience with government compliance, audits, and reporting requirements is highly preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
  • Strong planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills
