Job description

  • Shape greenfield energy products for 500,000+ apartment customers - from idea to scaled launch
  • Drive the energy transition for high-density living, a space most of the industry has overlooked
  • Melbourne based

Join a team that's All Kinds of Useful

At Origin, being useful is more than a tagline - it’s how we approach work every day. As a collective, we’re a team that thrives on finding better ways, working together, and owning our impact. From powering homes to delivering award-winning internet and helping to lead Australia’s energy transition. If you’re driven by purpose and excited to be part of something bigger, we’d love to have you on the journey.

About the role

This role sits within Origin's Centralised Energy Services (CES) team, part of our Retail business. CES delivers centralised hot water and embedded electricity networks to almost 500,000 customer accounts across more than 8,000 residential buildings nationally.

Reporting to the Group Manager New Products and Technology, you'll lead the development of new products and technology for our high-density building customers — from early ideas through to pilots and scaled rollout. This is a genuine greenfield space within Origin, which means real freedom to shape what's built, how it's tested and how it grows.

Working closely with developers, builders, strata communities and our internal commercial, sales and delivery teams, you'll shape the next generation of customer-focused offerings that help shape how Australians live in modern, connected buildings.

Why this role matters

The way Australians power their homes is changing fast — but most of the conversation about that transition assumes a standalone home with a roof, a driveway and a switchboard the resident controls. Apartment living doesn't work that way, and the residents of high-density buildings have largely been left out of the shift.

This role exists to change that. It's a rare opportunity to directly contribute to Origin's purpose of getting energy right for our customers, community and planet.
When this role is done well:

  • Customers in high-rise and multi-residential buildings get access to more future-ready energy products that are connected into Origin's Virtual Power Plant, helping households benefit from a more flexible, lower-cost energy system
  • New products solve problems that are specific to apartment living — shared infrastructure, allocation, billing transparency, comfort, access — and that standalone-home products don't address
  • Developers and strata partners see Origin as the partner of choice for innovative, reliable energy solutions
  • CES grows sustainably, with resident-facing products that strengthen the relationship between Origin and the people who actually live in the buildings we serve
  • Ideas are tested quickly and confidently, moving through multiple iterations with clear evidence about what to scale, pivot or stop
  • Internal partners across pricing, technology, digital, sales and operations are aligned, informed and engaged throughout the product journey
  • The voice of the customer is built into every product decision, so what we launch genuinely solves real problems

What will you bring?

  • You're a curious, customer-led product thinker who enjoys turning ambiguity into clarity, and you thrive in spaces where the path isn't yet defined. You're known for the way you bring people along — proactively engaging stakeholders, sharing context early, and building trust across diverse teams. You're equally comfortable shaping strategy and getting into the detail, and you genuinely enjoy iterating your way to the right answer.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with a proactive approach to managing communication, expectations and decisions — ideally with experience partnering closely with pricing, technology and digital teams
  • A track record of taking new products through multiple levels of iteration, learning quickly from each cycle and using insights to refine what you build
  • Experience leading product development end-to-end, from discovery and customer research through to pilot and scaled launch
  • Comfort working with technical products or services and the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, simple language
  • Strong commercial acumen, including building business cases, shaping pricing or value propositions, and using data to guide product decisions
  • An interest in the energy transition, electrification, VPPs or emerging building technologies — and the curiosity to keep learning as the industry evolves
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field (such as Business, Engineering, Law or Management) or equivalent industry experience
