Overview

Director of Operations - Pensacola (Remote Option):

Bowhead is seeking a Director of Operations to lead programs and personnel in our Systems & Information Technology (SIT) Group. This senior leadership role carries full Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility and encompasses technical and non-technical program management, strategic business development, and customer relationship management. The Director will drive operational excellence across existing Department of Defense (DoD) programs and identify and pursue opportunities to expand the portfolio.

Location Flexibility:This position offers a fully remote work option for candidates. Candidates located within commuting distance of Bowhead offices are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Program Oversight: Provide direct leadership and management for programs, projects, and personnel across assigned divisions and/or units within the SIT Group.
  • Resource Allocation: Organize project and task workloads, assign direct and indirect responsibilities, and select the most qualified individuals for specific tasks.
  • Operational Excellence: Develop, refine, and implement SIT processes to ensure consistent performance and efficiency across programs.
  • Issue Resolution: Address escalated issues through Program Managers and implement corrective actions to ensure resolution.
  • Financial Management: Oversee and manage budgets for assigned units, maintain full P&L accountability, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Team Building: Cultivate a high-performing, collaborative team culture aligned with Bowhead's mission and values.
  • Staff Development: Mentor team members, offer professional development opportunities, and set clear expectations for performance and growth.
  • Business Development: Lead initiatives to expand the business pipeline, broaden the revenue base, and identify opportunities among existing DoD customers and in emerging markets.
  • Strategic Growth: Develop and execute strategies to drive organic growth and expand into new areas, leveraging Bowhead's established core competencies.
  • Proposal Leadership: Lead and contribute to proposal development, including team coordination, technical content creation, and quality assurance.
  • Customer Engagement: Serve as a senior point of accountability for customer satisfaction, managing relationships with program stakeholders and leadership contacts.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to and implement approved strategic plans aligned with division and corporate objectives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology) and 10+ years of progressively responsible management experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in site lead, project management, and/or program management roles.
  • Experience with Cost-Plus-Fixed-Fee (CPFF) and other cost-type contract vehicles is highly desired.

Industry Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated experience in DoD contracting across technical, contractual, and leadership roles.
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition environments, program structures, and government contracting frameworks.

Project Management Expertise:

  • Knowledge of PMO processes, project management methodologies, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Proven track record of managing programs to meet or exceed customer requirements.

Leadership Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead independently and collaborate within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong business acumen, including experience in strategic planning, resource allocation, and financial management.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) at an intermediate to advanced level.

Customer Focus:

  • A customer-centric mindset and the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships effectively.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodicallySECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to maintain a clearance at the Secret level and be eligible to obtain a Top Secret clearance. US Citizenship is a requirement for a Secret clearance at this location.
