Remote land development refers to the process of planning, managing, and executing land development projects from a distance, often utilizing digital tools and communication platforms. This can include tasks such as site analysis, permitting, infrastructure planning, and coordination with stakeholders, all performed without being physically present on the property. Remote land developers often collaborate with local contractors and use technologies like GIS mapping, drones, and virtual meetings to oversee projects effectively. This approach has become more popular with advances in digital technology, making it possible to manage projects efficiently from anywhere.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Land Development professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Land Development professional, you need expertise in land use planning, real estate principles, and environmental regulations, often supported by a degree in civil engineering, urban planning, or a related field. Familiarity with GIS software, CAD systems, and project management tools is typically required, along with relevant certifications like AICP or PE. Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate with stakeholders and navigate regulatory processes. Job description

Position Overview
US Renewables LLC (USR) is seeking a Land Agent with a proven track record of leading successful land campaigns for renewable energy projects. In this role, you will develop and execute land acquisition strategies for utility scale solar and battery energy storage project sites. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders—landowners, local governments, and community organizations—to secure project sites and drive growth across the United States. This is a remote position but you have to be willing to travel 50% of the time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead land acquisition campaigns for greenfield and existing projects, from strategy through successful negotiation of leases, easements, and purchase agreements.
  • Conduct land records research to identify, validate, and contact prospective landowners.
  • Present project benefits to individual landowners, small groups, and occasionally larger community forums.
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions aligned with company goals, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all agreements.
  • Collaborate with Legal to manage documentation and address title curative matters, including obtaining signatures and recording documents.
  • Maintain organized project records and regularly update project data in GIS mapping tools (preferably Anderson Optimization or PV Case).
  • Track and report progress to internal teams and leadership, including regular status updates, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with landowners throughout the development lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5–7 years of experience leading land acquisition campaigns, with at least 5 years focused on renewables (solar, wind, or battery storage).
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Strong understanding of real estate matters, including experience negotiating land contracts, leases, and easements.
  • Familiarity with RTOs/ISOs across the country (e.g., MISO, PJM, ERCOT, etc.).
  • Proficiency in GIS tools; experience with Anderson Optimization or PV Case strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills—comfortable making cold calls, hosting presentations, and addressing diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt communication style and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills, capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office; ability to maintain records and produce weekly project reports.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% domestically.
