Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - AI Platform & Frameworks based in Netherlands.

Join a high-impact engineering team responsible for building the foundational platform that powers AI innovation across multiple product teams. In this role, you will design scalable frameworks, reusable libraries, and backend services that enable engineers to develop and deploy AI-powered applications with greater speed and consistency. You'll contribute to the evolution of modern agentic AI systems while improving developer experience, architecture, and platform standards. Working at the intersection of AI and backend engineering, you'll influence technical strategy, mentor fellow engineers, and drive the adoption of best practices across the organization. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment with significant ownership and long-term impact.

Accountabilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain shared libraries, reusable frameworks, Spring Boot starters, templates, and platform components that enable engineering teams to build scalable AI-powered applications.
  • Define architecture, APIs, and engineering standards for agentic AI frameworks, including orchestration patterns, tool integration, memory management, evaluation frameworks, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
  • Build and enhance Kotlin/Spring Boot backend services and client libraries that serve as core platform building blocks.
  • Mentor engineering teams on AI agent development, providing technical guidance on Python-based frameworks such as LangChain and LangGraph while promoting engineering best practices.
  • Lead the strategy for evaluating AI systems, measuring quality, reliability, and regression through robust testing and observability approaches.
  • Research emerging technologies, prototype innovative solutions, and transform successful concepts into production-ready platform capabilities.
  • Improve developer experience by creating clear documentation, intuitive APIs, useful tooling, and well-designed development workflows.
  • Collaborate across engineering teams to understand platform needs, influence architectural decisions, conduct design and code reviews, and promote adoption of shared platform standards.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including extensive work building frameworks, libraries, platform services, or reusable developer tooling.
  • Strong expertise in Kotlin, JVM technologies, and Spring Boot with deep understanding of API design, software architecture, and scalable backend development.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership with the ability to drive architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and influence technical direction across multiple teams.
  • Strong interest in AI technologies and a willingness to become a subject matter expert in agentic AI frameworks, orchestration, evaluation, and guardrail systems.
  • Experience solving ambiguous technical challenges by translating complex requirements into scalable, maintainable platform solutions.
  • Systems-thinking mindset with the ability to design solutions that consider the broader engineering ecosystem and long-term scalability.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Working knowledge of Python and the ability to contribute effectively across both Kotlin and Python technology stacks.
  • Experience with distributed systems, cloud platforms (preferably AWS), infrastructure as code, messaging systems, gRPC, event-driven architectures, or developer experience initiatives is considered an advantage.
  • Familiarity with LLMs, LangChain, LangGraph, ML observability tools, experiment tracking, or open-source framework development is highly desirable.
Benefits
  • Fully remote contract opportunity within Europe.
  • Flexible working environment with significant autonomy and ownership.
  • Opportunity to shape the technical foundation of modern AI platform development.
  • High-impact role influencing engineering standards and platform architecture across multiple teams.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge AI technologies, agentic frameworks, and large-scale backend systems.
  • Collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
  • Opportunities for professional growth, technical leadership, and long-term career development.
