Job description

Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped millions of people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.
Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work - both in and out of the office.
We are seeking a Research Scientist to join our Health Science team, with a specific focus on candidates who bring proven experience conducting scientific and clinical studies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In this role, you will help Oura deepen its scientific and clinical presence in the UAE by designing high-quality studies, building strong external collaborations, generating publishable evidence, and translating findings into insights that support research, product development, and broader business priorities.
This is a remote role based in the U.S with a strong preference for candidates based on the East Coast (Eastern Time). Oura's remote employees in major cities like Boston, DC, and New York occasionally gather informally at local co-working locations.
What you will do
  • Lead the design of scientific and clinical studies, including observational, prospective, retrospective, and interventional study types, with a particular emphasis on work involving UAE-based collaborators, sites, or populations.
  • Analyze and interpret complex wearable, physiological, clinical, and multimodal biobehavioral datasets to generate meaningful health insights.
  • Build reproducible analytical workflows and communicate results clearly through notebooks, figures, reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
  • Apply rigorous statistical and computational methods, including time-series analysis, regression or mixed models, Bayesian methods, and machine-learning approaches where appropriate.
  • Contribute to manuscripts, abstracts, reports, patents, and other scientific dissemination activities.
  • Provide scientific and clinical input that helps Oura make evidence-based decisions across research, product, and partnership efforts.
  • Work cross-functionally with Science, Research Operations, Product, Clinical, Regulatory, and data partners to move studies from concept to execution and insight generation.

Requirements
We would love to consider you for this role if you have:
  • A PhD in a relevant field such as psychology, neuroscience, behavioral or health sciences, sleep and circadian biology, physiology, cardiometabolic health, endocrinology, women's health, digital health, biostatistics, biomedical engineering, computer science, data science, or a related discipline.
  • A strong track record of leading scientific research from hypothesis through publication, including first-authored peer-reviewed work.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and running human subjects studies, including protocol development, endpoint selection, ethics or IRB processes, and scientific dissemination.
  • Advanced programming and analytical skills in Python and/or R, with experience using SQL and working on complex physiological, wearable, time series, or multimodal biobehavioral datasets.
  • Experience with reproducible computational workflows using tools such as Jupyter, RStudio, Git, Docker, and/or Conda.
  • Fluency in statistical modeling and scientific data visualization, with the ability to turn complex analyses into clear, decision-ready insights.
  • A self-directed, collaborative, and translational mindset that connects rigorous science to practical health applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A proven record of conducting science and/or clinical studies in the UAE, with the judgment and credibility to work effectively with regional collaborators and stakeholders.
  • Experience working at the intersection of industry and academia.

Benefits
At Oura, we care about you and your well-being. Everyone here at Oura has a ring of their own and we are continually looking to improve employee health.
What we offer:
  • Competitive salary and equity packages
  • Health, dental, vision insurance, and mental health resources
  • An Oura Ring of your own plus employee discounts for friends & family
  • 20 days of paid time off plus 13 paid holidays plus 8 days of flexible wellness time off
  • Paid sick leave and parental leave

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
  • Region 1: $151,300 - $178,000
  • Region 2: $138,550 - $163,000
  • Region 3: $$127,500 - $150,000

A recruiter can determine your Region based on your US location.
We are not considering candidates residing in the following states: Alaska (AK), Delaware (DE), Iowa (IA), Mississippi (MS), Nebraska (NE), South Dakota (SD), West Virginia (WV), and Wisconsin (WI).
Oura is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
