How does working remotely in a Defense Acquisition role impact collaboration with cross-functional teams?

In a Remote Defense Acquisition position, effective collaboration with cross-functional teams—including engineering, legal, finance, and program management—is essential. Remote work often relies on secure digital communication platforms and scheduled virtual meetings to coordinate acquisition strategies, review contracts, and ensure compliance with government regulations. While this setup reduces in-person interaction, it fosters flexibility and can streamline documentation processes. Regular virtual check-ins and clear communication protocols are crucial for maintaining alignment and project momentum.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Defense Acquisition professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Defense Acquisition professional, you need a solid understanding of federal acquisition regulations, contract management, and procurement processes, typically supported by a relevant degree and certifications such as DAWIA or FAC-C. Familiarity with government procurement systems like SAM.gov, DPAS, and online contract management tools is essential. Strong analytical thinking, communication, and negotiation skills help you navigate complex contracts and collaborate with stakeholders. These capabilities are crucial for ensuring compliant, efficient, and effective procurement of defense goods and services in a remote work environment.
