This is a contract (independent contractor) engagement. The selected consultant will work on a contract basis and will not be an employee of the company.

We are seeking an experienced International Trade & Logistics Consultant to advise and support our growing North American operations. This contract role will provide strategic and operational expertise related to cross-border trade, customs compliance, logistics processes, and international supply chain execution, with a primary focus on exports from the United States into Mexico and Canada. The consultant will serve as both a strategic advisor and hands-on execution partner, leading process improvements and implementing initiatives that support business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Advise leadership and operations teams on U.S., Mexico, and Canada import/export regulations, ensuring compliance with customs, trade, and export control requirements
  • Review and optimize product classification methodologies, including HTS codes, country-of-origin determinations, and USMCA preferential trade treatment opportunities
  • Support development and maintenance of import/export compliance procedures, documentation, customs valuation, recordkeeping, broker management, and audit readiness
  • Monitor changes in trade regulations, tariffs, duties, and customs requirements affecting cross-border operations
  • Assess and improve current logistics processes supporting shipments from the United States into Mexico and Canada, including transportation, customs clearance, and delivery performance
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, and third-party logistics providers
  • Identify opportunities to reduce freight costs, transit times, customs delays, and administrative burden
  • Establish KPI reporting and performance management processes for logistics operations
  • Lead logistics and trade-related improvement initiatives from assessment through implementation, including SOPs, process documentation, and training materials
  • Coordinate cross-functional initiatives involving Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Procurement, and Customer Success teams
  • Advise leadership on international expansion considerations, distribution models, inventory positioning, and cross-border fulfillment strategies
  • Assist in evaluating technology solutions, trade management systems, and logistics platforms

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in international trade, customs compliance, logistics, or supply chain management
  • Significant experience managing U.S. exports to Mexico and Canada with deep knowledge of USMCA, customs regulations, and cross-border trade requirements
  • Experience working with hardware, industrial equipment, technology products, or similar physical goods
  • Demonstrated success supporting both early-stage/high-growth companies and more mature supply chain organizations
  • Strong working knowledge of freight forwarding, customs brokerage, transportation management, and international logistics operations
  • Ability to translate complex trade requirements into practical, scalable business processes
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB), Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Certified Export Specialist (CES), or equivalent trade certification is a plus
  • Experience with Mexico IMMEX programs, maquiladora operations, or bonded logistics environments is a plus
  • Familiarity with ERP, TMS, and global trade management systems is a plus
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
