Position Summary


Vie is seeking an experiencedDirector of Development & Construction to lead ground-up construction, major renovations, repositioning projects and capital improvements across its national portfolio.

This is an owner-side construction leadership role with responsibility for project scope, schedule, budget, quality and risk. The Director will oversee the full project lifecycle, including preconstruction, design management, procurement, contracting, construction, turnover and closeout.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in
multifamily construction, student housing development, real estate development or commercial construction management
and is comfortable leading both internal teams and outside partners across multiple markets.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead ground-up development, major renovations and capital improvement projects across multiple states.
  • Serve as Vies senior construction leader and owners representative.
  • Manage projects from pre-development and design through construction, turnover, warranty and closeout.
  • Establish and maintain project budgets, schedules, milestones, quality standards and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee architects, engineers, general contractors, consultants, vendors and specialty trades.
  • Manage design procurement, estimating, bidding, contractor selection, contract negotiations and value engineering.
  • Review construction plans, RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, draws, invoices and lien waivers.
  • Track commitments, forecasts, contingency, cost-to-complete and project variances.
  • Identify project risks early and drive corrective action to protect budget, schedule and quality.
  • Conduct regular site visits to evaluate progress, workmanship, staffing, safety and schedule.
  • Lead and develop team members supporting project management, construction accounting, procurement, contracting and quality control.
  • Establish consistent workflows, approval processes and reporting standards across the portfolio.
  • Enforce quality-assurance and quality-control standards through inspections, punch lists and closeout.
  • Provide clear project updates and recommendations to ownership, operating partners and executive leadership.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Real Estate Development or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Seven or more years of progressive experience in construction management, real estate development or major renovation projects.
  • Experience with multifamily, student housing, residential, hospitality or complex commercial construction.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent projects across different geographic markets.
  • Experience leading project managers, construction teams, contractors and third-party consultants.
  • Strong knowledge of project budgeting, estimating, scheduling, procurement, contracting and construction accounting.
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, contracts, change orders, pay applications, project draws and lien waivers.
  • Working knowledge of preconstruction, design development, permitting, value engineering, quality control and project closeout.
  • Strong executive communication, leadership and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 4060% throughout the United States.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with multifamily housing or purpose-built student housing.
  • Experience working for an owner, developer, general contractor or construction-management firm.
  • Previous experience serving as an owners representative.
  • PMP, CCM, LEED, OSHA or another relevant construction credential.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet or similar construction-management platforms.
  • Experience standardizing construction operations across a multistate or national portfolio.
