JOB TITLE: Section 508 Accessibility Specialist
GOVERNMENT AGENCY: DOJ ATR (Antitrust Division)
POSITION INFORMATION: Full-Time Position; Government contractor supporting DOJ ATR
LOCATION: Hybrid; ATR HQ - 450 Fifth Street NW, Washington, DC (3 days onsite/2 remote)
POSITION TIMING: Position requires DOJ clearance; candidate can start once complete (4-6 weeks)

POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Section 508 Accessibility Specialist to ensure digital content complies with Section 508 accessibility standards. This role focuses on remediating and reviewing web pages, Microsoft Office documents, and PDF files to meet accessibility requirements.
The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, practical experience with accessibility testing tools, and the ability to clearly communicate findings and recommendations while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accessibility Remediation & Testing
  • Remediate web pages (HTML/CSS) to meet Section 508 and WCAG accessibility standards
  • Remediate Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for accessibility compliance
  • Remediate and tag PDF documents to ensure accessibility using industry-standard practices
  • Conduct accessibility testing using automated and manual testing tools
  • Validate accessibility compliance before content is published

Review & Recommendations
  • Review digital content and identify Section 508 compliance issues
  • Provide clear, actionable recommendations to designers, developers, and content owners
  • Document accessibility findings, fixes, and compliance status
  • Assist teams in understanding accessibility requirements and best practices

Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with web developers, designers, and content creators to resolve accessibility issues
  • Communicate accessibility requirements in a clear, non-technical manner when needed
  • Participate as a collaborative team member in accessibility planning and reviews

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated experience with Section 508 compliance and remediation
  • Strong working knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Experience remediating web pages, Microsoft Office files, and PDFs
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing and review tools (e.g., WAVE, Axe, ANDI, Accessibility Insights, Adobe Acrobat)
  • Ability to identify accessibility issues and propose effective solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple remediation tasks simultaneously

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 or later success criteria
  • Experience using screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)
  • Familiarity with document authoring and remediation workflows
  • Experience working in government or regulated environments
  • Accessibility certification (e.g., DHS Trusted Tester, IAAP CPACC/WAS)

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to obtain a US DOJ public trust clearance
