What is a relocation nanny?

A relocation nanny is a professional childcare provider who assists families during a move, often traveling with them to a new city or country. Their primary role is to ensure a smooth transition for the children, providing consistent care and helping them adjust to their new environment. Relocation nannies may also assist with packing, organizing, and settling into the new home, and sometimes stay with the family for a set period after the move to provide ongoing support. This specialized service is particularly valuable for families with young children or those moving internationally.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a relocation nanny?

To thrive as a Relocation Nanny, you need extensive childcare experience, flexibility with travel, and ideally qualifications in early childhood education or a recognized nanny certification. Familiarity with scheduling tools, communication apps, and a valid passport are typically required, along with first aid and CPR certification. Outstanding adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and strong organizational and communication skills set top candidates apart. These skills ensure a smooth transition for families and children, providing stability and support during periods of change.

What are some common challenges relocation nannies face when supporting families during international moves?

Relocation Nannies often encounter challenges such as helping children adjust to new environments, managing cultural transitions, and maintaining routines amidst the unpredictability of moving. They must be adaptable and resourceful, as the role may require organizing activities in unfamiliar cities and liaising with local services or schools. Strong communication skills are crucial, as Relocation Nannies often coordinate closely with parents, moving coordinators, and sometimes language tutors to ensure a smooth transition for the family.

Job description

Overview
NASHUA, NH (NATIONWIDE SEARCH): A warm, first-time family expecting their baby in mid-August is seeking a loving, attentive newborn care nanny to join their home starting October 1st, 2026. Above all, this role is about love and care for their new baby, and the family is looking for someone who brings genuine warmth, patience, and dedication to that role.
The schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 7/8am to 5/6pm. Mom works in an office nearby, and Dad works hybrid and is home for much of the week, so this is a household where a caregiver will often be working alongside an involved, present family rather than fully solo.
Responsibilities center on all duties related to caring for the new baby. Helping with the baby's laundry and occasionally the parents' laundry is a bonus but not required, and light meal prep for the baby will become part of the role down the line once solids are introduced. Candidates should be comfortable navigating stairs regularly and comfortable around dogs, as the family has a golden retriever in the home. A willingness to travel and a valid passport are considered a bonus, not a requirement.
The ideal candidate is up to date on standard vaccinations, including Tdap and MMR, has a clean driving record, and is comfortable driving the baby as needed. This is an educated household that values education, and the family is looking for a candidate who reflects that same thoughtfulness and care. The family is open to a nationwide search but is not offering relocation assistance at this time.
Compensation is $30-50 per hour gross, commensurate with experience, and industry-standard 10 days of PTO plus 5 sick days.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS COLLEGE DEGREE | AA IN RELATED FIELD OF STUDY | OR A MINIMUM OF 5+ YEARS OF PROFESSIONAL NANNY EXPERIENCE
  • UP TO DATE FIRST-AID & CPR CERTIFICATION (WILLINGNESS TO RENEW AS NEEDED)

  • A PASSION FOR WORKING WITH CHILDREN
  • 5+ YEARS OF CHILDCARE EXPERIENCE IN ANY FIELD
  • EXCELLENT WORK AND PERSONAL REFERENCES
  • U.S. DRIVER'S LICENSE (THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO NYC RESIDENTS)
  • MUST BE A COMPETENT SWIMMER (IF AND WHEN REQUIRED)
  • NON-SMOKER
