General Description:
The Recreation Operations Assistant supports daily recreation and wellness facility operations, including facility coverage, facility opening and closing procedures, participant customer service, activity and intramural support, safety procedures, administrative support, departmental purchasing support, inventory, receiving, and order tracking.
Duties/Tasks:
  • Maintain safe, clean, organized, and welcoming recreation and wellness spaces.
  • Monitor facility use and support equipment, activity area, and shared space readiness.
  • Assist with facility opening and closing procedures, including space checks, equipment setup, basic security checks, and readiness of recreation and wellness areas.
  • Report maintenance, repair, cleanliness, equipment, security, safety, or operational concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist with planning, setup, leading, and supporting recreation, wellness, intramural, and informal recreation activities.
  • Support participant registration, scheduling, activity setup, game-day operations, scorekeeping, equipment preparation, rule reminders, communication, engagement, and participation.
  • Promote recreation and wellness programs, activities, facility offerings, fair play, sportsmanship, respectful conduct, and adherence to applicable rules and procedures.
  • Provide professional customer service by responding to routine questions and concerns, referring complex matters to the appropriate supervisor, and supporting a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment.
  • Help enforce facility rules, safety guidelines, and program procedures, and follow applicable college, department, facility, program, safety, and operational policies.
  • Report incidents, injuries, hazards, participant concerns, and unsafe conditions, and assist with basic emergency procedures within the scope of assigned duties.
  • Maintain accurate records related to participation, facility use, equipment inventory, incidents, daily operations, expenditures, feedback, and program support.
  • Assist with program promotion, marketing, outreach, signage, communication, departmental purchasing support, procurement-related tasks, inventory, receiving, order tracking, and related administrative tasks.
  • Follow applicable fiscal, procurement, receiving, and approval procedures when assisting with purchasing-related tasks.
  • The position may lead or monitor participant activities as assigned.
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and department briefings as assigned.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to support recreation and wellness operations, program offerings, and participant experiences.

Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Minimum Work Experience:
  • Experience delivering exceptional customer service within a professional work environment.
  • Experience in activity support, facility support, administrative support, or related service-oriented work in a public-facing, student-facing, recreation, wellness, fitness, athletics, educational, community, or similar environment.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience using computers or common business applications for communication, recordkeeping, scheduling, reporting, or related administrative tasks.
