Job description

Position Overview

Vision IT is seeking a skilled RM/FOIA/Publications Technical Writer/Editor to support Department of Defense operations at Los Angeles Air Force Base. This role is responsible for developing, editing, managing, and maintaining official government documentation, records management (RM) processes, FOIA responses, and publication controls in accordance with DoD directives and federal regulatory standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical writing skills, experience with DoD records and information governance, and the ability to ensure accuracy, compliance, and clarity across mission-critical documentation.

(This Position is Contingent Upon Award)

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, edit, format, and maintain technical documentation, policies, procedures, and official publications
  • Support Records Management (RM) functions in accordance with DoD 5015.02 standards and federal records retention policies
  • Process, track, and assist with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Ensure publications and documentation comply with DoD formatting, classification, and distribution requirements
  • Review and update system documentation, SOPs, user guides, and technical manuals
  • Coordinate with security, IT, legal, and program teams to validate documentation accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain version control, document repositories, and publication libraries
  • Support audits, inspections, and compliance reviews related to records and information management
  • Assist in lifecycle management of official records, including archiving and disposal processes
  • Ensure sensitive and classified information is properly handled and controlled
Required Qualifications
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or higher (must be current and transferable)
  • CompTIA Security+ certification (required)
  • Experience in technical writing, editing, or documentation control in a DoD or federal environment
  • Familiarity with Records Management (RM), FOIA processes, and federal publication standards
  • Understanding of DoD policies such as DoD 5015.02 and related records directives
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive and controlled information
  • Proficiency with document management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work onsite full-time at Los Angeles Air Force Base
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting Air Force or Space Force programs
  • Experience with SharePoint or enterprise content management systems
  • Knowledge of classification guidelines and controlled unclassified information (CUI) handling
  • Experience supporting compliance audits or inspections
  • Strong written communication, editing, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work across technical and non-technical teams in a mission-driven environment
