Job Description
SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a Project Operations Accountant for our Phoenix group that will provide accounting, analysis, and financial support to one or more teams overseeing the completion of a construction project. This individual will serve as the key liaison from the Finance and Accounting department to the project team.
Location: Phoenix, AZ
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review construction contract requirements for assigned projects, utilize contract summaries for daily work, and perform budget allocations as required. Assist with various contract requirements, such as certified payroll reporting, minority participation reporting, and maintaining project insurance. Track subcontractor lien waivers if necessary.
  • Process receivables to ensure favorable project cash flow, prepare cost-plus project billings, respond to customer or project manager inquiries, ensure cash receipts are posted correctly, and work with the project team to assure timely payment receipt. May prepare and enter lump sum billings into the system.
  • Process payables with an understanding of sales and use tax requirements, provide new vendor setup information, coordinate payments and daily issuances, set up new subcontracts, process subcontractor applications, review equipment pre-bill reports, and ensure all project costs are processed.
  • Conduct project cost analyses and reporting for the project team and Manager/Supervisor of Project Finance Operations prepare specialized reporting for assigned projects, assist with monthly financial projections, and identify any issues impacting project costs.
  • Understand labor cost components in the project's geographic area, including union agreements, benefit programs, and prevailing wage requirements. Ensure new craft labor team members are in the system, maintain team member files, capture and report hours weekly, and review certified payroll reports for accuracy.
  • Answer general questions on Procore system, represent Mortenson's best interests with project auditors, assist with annual and special audits, and support annual physical inventory procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration. Or equivalent years of experience.
  • Detail orientation and organizational skills sufficient to support multiple concurrent projects
  • Construction-related business exposure helpful; especially knowledge of percentage of completion accounting and construction contracts
  • Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 3 years accounting experience, preferably with construction accounting
  • Experienced supporting many team members
  • Proficiency working in Microsoft Excel, as well as experience with ERP accounting applications like Textura and Oracle
  • Strong working knowledge of basic office equipment
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to be highly organized

The base pay range for this role is $72,900-$109,400(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
