Job description

Overview

The Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) is the largest municipally owned gas utility in the nation, supplying gas service in the City of Philadelphia to over 500,000 customers. From its humble beginnings in 1836, PGW has grown into the large, modern facility that exists today. As one of the nation's leading natural gas providers, PGW prides itself on stability and continual growth. PGW is dedicated to becoming the greenest natural gas delivery company in the region.

Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) is offering internships/co-ops for ENERGY INNOVATION & NEW ENERGY VENTURES students in our Corporate Planning Department. Opportunities are available during the academic/calendar year and summer months.

The PGW Internship Program is designed for students currently enrolled FULL-TIME at an accredited college or university with a sophomore classification or above ONLY.

Responsibilities

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

1.       Research Projects

o   Support Corporate Planning department in researching case studies and utility best practices for energy innovation, referencing:

  University partnerships

  Business incubators

  Public-facing conferences and seminars

  Utility pilot programs

o   Provide recommendations for PGW's energy innovation programming by identifying potential partners and maintaining a catalogue of businesses whose work supports business diversification efforts including: carbon capture, alternative energy, and energy efficiency.

o   As ideas are identified, support the development of a project portfolio.

2.       Data Analysis & Technology Application

o   Review engineering studies of new technologies to determine cost-effectiveness.

o   Assess applicability of new technologies for deployment in a PGW-specific utility setting.

o   Develop and present analyses in the form of a business case or commercialization structure.

3.       Program Communications

o   Assistance in development of communications materials

o   Identifying key outreach partners & stakeholders

o   Support developing the structure and drafting content for PGW's upcoming energy innovation website.

4.       Other Duties as Assigned

o   Support other departmental activities that may include work with corporate sustainability, strategy, center-of-excellence of work products, as needed.

Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Environmental Studies or Engineering, or other related field of study OR currently enrolled in a Bachelors degree or Masters degree program in Business Administration, Public Policy, Environmental Studies or Engineering, or other related field of study.
    • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with customers and employees.
    • Must be profiecient in the use of Microsoft Office
    • Must have problem solving and analytical skills with the ability develop creative solutions
    • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and exercise sound business judgment, with limited supervision.
    Must have organizational management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and usually under short deadlines  ;
