Job Description
YMCA Camp Carter is seeking a dedicated and team-oriented Chef's Assistant to join our Food Service team. This part-time position supports the Food Service Manager in preparing and serving meals for overnight camp, day camp, groups, retreats, events, and other rental programs on our 360-acre property.
The Chef's Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring that guests enjoy nutritious, delicious meals in a safe, clean, and welcoming dining environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys cooking, working with people, and being part of a mission-driven organization.
This role will provide you with hands-on training, apprenticeship, and coaching from a professional chef to help grow your skillsets and knowledge in food service and kitchen management.
Responsibilities
Assist the Food Service Manager in planning, preparing, and serving meals for groups of various sizes.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen and dining hall environment.
Support in ordering, receiving, and storing food and supplies.
Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices in compliance with health and safety standards.
Supervise and assist kitchen volunteers or support staff as needed.
Provide excellent customer service to all guests, ensuring positive dining experiences.
Work as part of the Food Service team to support the overall mission of YMCA Camp Carter.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Previous cooking or food service experience required; camp, institutional, or large-group cooking preferred.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods of time.
ServSafe Certification or willingness to obtain (YMCA can provide training if needed).
