Job description

Job Description – Production Support Java Developer (Phoenix, AZ)

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Local Candidates Only)
Type: Contract-to-Hire | 100% Onsite (Remote option after FTE conversion)
Client: Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS)

ASRS is seeking a Production Support Java Developer to support and maintain critical enterprise applications that power core business operations. This role focuses on ensuring application reliability, troubleshooting production issues, performing root cause analysis, deploying fixes and enhancements, and supporting production releases. The developer will work across the full application stack, collaborating with developers, QA, DevOps, DBAs, and business stakeholders in a modern DevOps environment using Jira.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and resolve production incidents, perform RCA, and implement permanent solutions.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Java web applications and web services.
  • Troubleshoot APIs, optimize SQL queries, ensure data integrity, and improve application performance.
  • Monitor application health, analyze logs, and proactively address system issues.
  • Develop and deploy bug fixes, patches, and minor enhancements.
  • Maintain front-end views, controller logic, and application workflows.
  • Create and maintain unit, integration, and regression tests.
  • Support production deployments, release validation, and rollback activities.
  • Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
Required Experience
  • 5+ years of IT experience.
  • 3+ years of Java web application or web services development.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle methodologies, preferably Agile/Scrum.
  • Familiarity with BDD/TDD methodologies; Cucumber experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of system analysis, application design, QA, CI/CD, version control, and secure software development practices.
