The R&D/Released Product Engineer II plays a key role in supporting medical devices throughout the product lifecycle, from commercialization through end-of-life. This position is responsible for designing, developing, and improving products while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory, quality, and manufacturing requirements. The role partners closely with cross-functional teams to execute sustaining engineering initiatives, product enhancements, change management activities, verification and validation efforts, risk management activities, post-market support, and manufacturing transfers. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong engineering fundamentals, sound technical judgment, and the ability to independently execute engineering assignments while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary teams
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
  • Support released products throughout the commercialization-to-end-of-life product lifecycle.
  • Execute sustaining engineering projects, product improvements, and design changes that support quality, compliance, manufacturability, and business objectives.
  • Develop engineering solutions using sound technical principles, engineering analysis, and risk-based decision making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, Operations, Marketing, Medical Affairs, and Supply Chain to achieve project objectives.
  • Support design control activities including product requirements, design reviews, verification, validation, and design transfer.
  • Participate in product risk management activities, including hazard analysis, risk assessments, and mitigation planning.
  • Develop and implement engineering change orders, product updates, and manufacturing improvements while maintaining compliance with applicable procedures and regulations.
  • Provide technical support for post-market activities, product investigations, quality initiatives, and customer-facing issues.
  • Support manufacturing transfers, supplier changes, and process improvement initiatives to ensure product quality and continuity of supply.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, protocols, reports, specifications, and engineering assessments in accordance with quality system requirements.
  • Contribute technical expertise to project teams and actively participate in problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate technical information and project status to stakeholders across multiple functions.

Minimum Requirement (Must Haves):
  • Bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • OR, Advance degree in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 0 years of relevant experience
  • Experience supporting products within regulated industry
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals, design controls, verification and validation, and risk management principles

Nice To Have:
  • Medical device industry experience
  • Experience supporting implantable or capital medical device technologies.
  • Knowledge of FDA, ISO 13485, EU MDR, and other applicable medical device regulations.
  • Experience with design controls, verification, validation, and product risk management.
  • Experience with sustaining engineering, post-market support, and product lifecycle management.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing transfers, supplier changes, and process validation activities.
  • Experience with PLM systems, CAD tools, and engineering documentation systems.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing, tolerance analysis, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed, cross-functional organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$88,800.00 - $133,200.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
