SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Business Unit Manager, the Product Manager is responsible for determining the business strategy for specific markets within the Industrial Business Unit. Business and marketing strategies will be determined based on customer needs, our right to win, and market potential. Initially, this role will focus heavily on the fast-growing Data Center market to include power generation applications. The Product Manager will work closely with Powerex sales, engineering, and marketing personnel as well as with distribution partners, OEMs, and end users to execute the business and marketing strategies.

The Product Manager is responsible for both upstream new product development as well as supporting downstream sales execution. This extends from increasing the profitability and market reach of existing products to developing new products for the company. You will build products from existing ideas and help to develop new ideas based on your industry experience and your contact with customers and prospects.

The product manager must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. It is important for the Product Manager to develop first-hand knowledge of market needs through interaction with original equipment manufacturers, end-users, and channel partners. The product manager communicates and coordinates with all areas of the company. You will work with the engineering team to define product release requirements. You will work with marketing communications to define the marketing promotion strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer. The product manager will be measured on successful market adoption and growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Understand Voice of Customer

  • Attend trade shows and visit end-users to understand market needs and wants
  • Conduct research and data-mining of historical sales and end-user applications to identify trends/opportunities
  • Become an expert in various compressed air and vacuum end-user applications
  • Research competitive environment focusing on competitor's product, sales and marketing strategies
  • Identify growth opportunities through new/existing markets & customers with new/existing products
  • Develop tracking metrics to show market penetration and growth

Create and Lead the multi-year New Product Development (NPD) pipeline

  • Working with sales and the engineering team, develop short-term (1 year) and long term (3 year) product development plans that support the company's long term plan.
  • Develop business cases to initiate NPD efforts by the Engineering team
  • Identify scope/features of new products based on market needs and wants
  • Work with the engineering team to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget

Marketing Strategy

  • Liaison with marketing specialist to develop marketing plans for new and existing products
  • Train sales organization on product features and applications
  • Manage website and literature development and changes
  • Identify trade shows to attend and prepare team to maximize opportunities
  • Lead trade show planning and exhibition where warranted
  • Recommend market pricing for existing and new products to achieve revenue and margin targets
  • Identify and assess partnership opportunities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:

  • A BS/BA undergraduate degree is required. MBA is preferred.
  • Technical aptitude or Engineering degree is preferred
  • 2-5 years of Product Manager experience preferred
  • Experience with OEMs and industrial customers is preferred
  • Experience with compressed air or vacuum systems is preferred
  • Experience supporting and/or working with partners in data centers, laboratories, heavy truck/bus, power generation aftertreatment, gas generation, or other key compressed air markets is preferred.
  • CRM experience is preferred

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Average travel of 35% (i.e. Customer Visits, Tradeshows, etc.)
