Position Summary Information
Position Summary
The Nursing Instructor will provide instruction to Nursing students in the classroom, clinical setting, and laboratory setting based on a curriculum which provides career mobility opportunities for individuals who desire educational preparation in nursing.
Responsibilities
  1. Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse (NCBON Standard 21 NCAC 36.0318)
  2. Instruct in classroom, simulation, clinical, and laboratory settings
  3. Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
  4. Participate in student admission, progression, and graduation requirements
  5. Participate in the academic advising, counseling, registration, and orientation of students
  6. Collaborate with other professionals in dealing with students needing special assistance
  7. Evaluate student performance of specified skills, theory, and principles
  8. Submit requests for supplies and equipment to the Director
  9. Promote effective communication and working relationships with personnel of clinical agencies
  10. Participate in the orientation of new faculty as necessary
  11. Attend program, advisory committee, faculty and division meetings as scheduled
  12. Serve on appropriate program and College committees
  13. Perform other activities as designated by the Program Director and Division Dean
  14. Perform expectations of a faculty member as stated in the full time faculty job description
  15. Other duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities

Instruction and Student Learning
  • Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice for the Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with **North Carolina Board of Nursing standards (NCBON Standard 21 NCAC 36.0318).
  • Instruct in classroom, simulation, clinical, and laboratory settings.
  • Evaluate student performance related to nursing skills, theory, and principles
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.

Student Support and Academic Progression
  • Participate in student admission, progression, and graduation processes.
  • Participate in the academic advising, counseling, registration, and orientation of students.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to assist students needing special assistance.

Institutional Service and Administrative Responsibilities
  • Submit requests for supplies and equipment to the Program Director.
  • Promote effective communication and working relationships with personnel of clinical agencies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution, or obtain within five years, required
  • Prior to or within the first three years of employment, have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment as demonstrated by the following, required
    • Completion of 45 contact hours of continuing education courses;
    • Completion of a certificate program in nursing education;
    • Nine semester hours of graduate course work;
  • National certification in nursing education; or
  • Documentation of successful completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the Board. Criteria for approval include content in the faculty role within the curriculum implementation, objectives to be met and evaluated, review of strategies for identified student population and expectations of student and faculty performance;
  • Two years full-time clinical employment as a registered nurse, required
  • Maintain a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina, required
