Patient Access Representative

Position Overview

We are seeking a customer-focused Patient Access Representative to support patient registration, financial clearance, and front-end revenue cycle operations in a hospital setting. The Patient Access Representative is responsible for providing an exceptional patient experience while ensuring accurate registration, insurance verification, eligibility determination, and point-of-service collections. The ideal Patient Access Representative is detail-oriented, knowledgeable in hospital registration workflows, and committed to delivering outstanding customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule

  • Day shift with start times between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM
  • Weekend and holiday availability required

Key Responsibilities

  • Register approximately 20–40 patients daily for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services
  • Complete patient registration, check-in, and demographic verification
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, authorizations, and financial responsibility
  • Perform financial clearance and obtain required registration and consent forms
  • Collect point-of-service payments, including copays, deductibles, deposits, and patient balances
  • Provide patient estimates and explain financial responsibilities
  • Process referrals, authorizations, and physician billing-related documentation
  • Verify Medicare, Medi-Cal, Workers' Compensation, Third Party Liability (TPL), and other insurance coverage
  • Maintain accurate patient records within the electronic medical record system
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while communicating professionally with patients, physicians, and internal departments
  • Support additional Patient Access functions as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of recent hospital registration experience
  • Recent experience with insurance eligibility verification in a hospital setting
  • Strong computer proficiency
  • Knowledge of insurance verification, financial clearance, and patient registration processes
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Epic EHR
  • Knowledge of health insurance plans and eligibility requirements
  • Experience with point-of-service collections and patient financial counseling
