We're growing and expanding our Patient Access team!
-We are seeking a part-time (20 hours/week) Patient Access Representative to work Wednesday- Friday.
-We are seeking a part-time (20 hours/week) Patient Access Representative to work Wednesday- Friday, 3:00 PM- 8:00 PM at the Greeter's desk and every other weekend in the ER from 8:00 AM- 6:30 PM.
-We are seeking a full-time (36 hours/week) Patient Access Representative to work Monday through Friday in our Family Medicine Clinic and Call Center.
- We are seeking a full-time (36 hours/week) Patient Access Representative to work as a Float in various departments.
Job Summary
The primary responsibilities of the Patient Access Representative are to arrange for efficient and orderly registration of Emergency, Inpatients and Outpatients. A patient access representative ensures that accurate patient information is collected and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures. These duties will be performed in a "Customer oriented" professional manner.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
  1. Registers patients for services performed at Southwest Health.
    1. Ensures patient records are up-to-date: demographics, employer, and emergency contacts
    2. Scans all necessary paperwork into system (face sheet, insurance card, patients' order, Driver's License, and any other signed documentation)
    3. Gathers necessary patient information including outpatient physician orders, diagnosis, emergency notification numbers, and insurance information
  2. Obtains necessary signatures on registration related documents.
  3. Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits.
  4. Obtains Medicaid eligibility from the online Forward Health program and changes the patients account accordingly.
  5. Processes Medicare patients through the designated electronic verification program to obtain medical necessity for scheduled procedures.
  6. Collects/requests out-of-pocket liabilities from patients upfront and applies, adjusts, and reconciles daily point-of-service cash reports. Refers patient accounts to financial counselors when further explanation/education is needed regarding denied authorizations, out-of-pocket liabilities, coverage options, or payment plans.
  7. Cross-trains and is well versed in a minimum of three areas of patient access.
  8. Obtains signature from patient on Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) if the procedure didn't pass medical necessity.
  9. Exhibits professionalism in appearance, speech, and conduct. Ensures that services are provided in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  10. Adheres to Southwest Health's value-based behavior standards.
  11. Understands and adheres to Southwest Health compliance and HIPAA standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  12. Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
